una hermosura total ser parte del Primer Congreso de Escritura Creativa en Español que se celebró en la Universidad de Houston el 23, 24 y 26 de octubre. mil gracias a la indomitable @cristinariveragarza , el comité de @phdescriturauh y a todes lxs voluntarios y alumnos por ofrecernos un encuentro tan lleno, inspirador, y generativo. me quedo con las palabras de @lilianacolanzi sobre los espacios hechizados por los fantasmas y “mirar” como una manera de crear el paisaje y caminar sobre huellas; la plática de Cristina sobre la importancia de la literatura para respirar en unísono y encontrar el amor dentro del yo-otro. estoy muy agradecida de haber conocido gente de tantos países diferentes, ampliando mis pensamientos sobre lo que es posible a través de la escritura y la conexión humana. un brindis al equipo de san diego @yaspora @anniedetijuana @luisaluisaww La Amy y a todes los nuevos amigxs!!!!

¡HOLA OLA! october edition was one for the books!!!! ❤️‍🔥🥀🥰🥳 huge shoutout to @marga_pintado & @monilightt for blessing the mic as our features: shrinking islands, car wash storms, family, love, belonging, perseverance, grit, latino funk, MOVEMENT! it was all such a vibeeeee 🔥🔥🔥 & moni got half the crowd up & dancing for the end of her set!!! it was suuuuuch a joy to be in community during these dystopic times. to hear the echoes of grief, frustration, disappointment that we’re feeling through: the catharsis of love, generosity & resistance in spite of it all. thank you to the incredibly talented open mic’ers & to all those who joined, for your first show or your nth. thank you to drew for swooping in & saving the day as our trusted sound tech. thank you to the friends, the strangers, the strangers-to-become-friends. you are the community that makes this happen. the laughter! how it soothed! TRULY! what an incredible blessing to make this space with you all. to my sweetest girlies, the bouquet of flowers was such a nice surprise omg 🥹 & an ever abundant thanks to @athenaeumartcenter for hosting the show & being such a dynamic offering for the logan heights community. gratitude! gratitude! gratitude! 💘💘💘

¡HOLA OLA! september edition was giving tremendous TRI-lingual bliss 🙂‍↕️🌟🥀 big shout out to @allpacab & @ola_rota for making the trip north from ensenada, sharing translations, haikus & poetry directly inspired!! by activism!! in ensenada to stop a development project that would have affected the beaches & local community. who said surfers can’t lead a social movement…. thank you to @_willamarj for sharing their downright ANGELIC! vocals, bringing us to sing together & offering a love ballad in tagalog. super super grateful to these incredible featured artists & to the folks who came out to share on the open mic or just vibe in creative camaraderie 😏😎🤩 blessed for this community!! blessed to share with yall! thank you thank you!! 💘💘

summmmmmmmmmmmer was definitely a season of travel this year. spent a week at breadloaf environmental writer’s conference, vermont is like?? unceasingly beautiful?? a screensaver everywhere you look?? definition bucolic / pastoral / gorginaaaaa. learned a lot, made some incredible workshop friends, reveled in the nature time (including “Leech Lake” which was wild) & even got to catch up w/ @abrasion.jock (blessings). then bopped around to see the bestie @skywise42 & their boo in boston (the heat dome was nooooo joke, 106 degrees one day omgah!) along with prima @isatasende and then another sweet primita @natibenitezz in DC. music museums and many many moments w/ loved ones.
