So fortunate to document 2025 with @voiceofsandiego
Arguably, one my most bewildering and historic moments of the year, was capturing my first "mayoral birthing" in real time (slide # 12).
I was assigned to cover the Imperial Beach City Council meeting on August 8th. This was the first Imperial Beach City Council meeting after former Imperial Beach Mayor Paloma Aguirre was sworn in as a newly-elected member of the County of San Diego Board of Supervisors on July 22nd. The Imperial Beach City Council had to now fill that role. That process could have went any number of ways, including a possible special election, and dragged on for weeks. Not many in attendence were expecting IB City Council member Mitch McKay to be appointed Imperial Beach Mayor during THIS meeting. Half way through the meeting, I suddenly realized.... "Wait, their gonna appoint the mayor right f-in now"
