Batter up! ⚾ EEPHUS has its North American premiere at @thenyff and theatrical is on-deck. @variety with the exclusive announcement, we’re so proud to be the US distribution home for EEPHUS!
EEPHUS will have its North American Premiere in the Main Slate of @thenyff and i couldn’t be more elated! We now have the best festival one-two punch an independent American film can hope for: Cannes and NYC. So honored to be a part of such an amazing lineup of films, and thrilled to finally have an audience that may understand what “balk” means!
I’m still deciding what’s more stunning to me: the fact that my directorial debut feature will be world premiering in a month in Directors’ Fortnight at the 77th Cannes Film Festival or that a film about middle-aged New England rec-league baseball players managed to win the hearts of a French programming team. In any case, endless gratitude to @quinzaine_des_cineastes for believing in Eephus, a humble but ambitious movie that began its wild journey over six years ago during brainstorming sessions with @natemediagood and @catdogtreehill . I’m absolutely honored to be associated with all the amazing people who have participated in this project along the way, and all those who have embraced its finished form in the recent months. The film festival submission process has been a long road sprinkled with setbacks, but I’m beyond pleased that we finally found our home at arguably the greatest showcase for arthouse cinema in the world. See you on the Croisette, as they say.

"Eephus is an elegy, but with just the barest hint of sentimentality—a shrugging send-off that simultaneously cares deeply about America’s pastime." – David Sims, The Atlantic
This Weekend • Two recreational baseball teams have been meeting on their New England field on Sunday afternoons for longer than anyone can remember. These middle-aged sportsmen can’t run as fast as they used to but their vigorous appetite for socializing, squabbling, and busting chops remains undiminished. After the know-nothing county board opts to raze the baseball diamond, the teams meet for one final, epic game at their beloved Soldier’s Field. Named for a rarely-deployed curveball, EEPHUS is both a ribald comedy for the baseball connoisseur and a movie for anyone who’s ever lamented their community slipping away.

Spent a good chunk of my summer in Xining, China at the 19th Annual First International Film Festival, where @omnesfilms was invited to mentor a training camp for up-and-coming filmmakers.
This is the same camp that previously welcomed mentors like Bela Tarr, Tsai Ming-Liang and Mohsen Makhmalbaf, so needless to say we were honored to take on the challenge.
Not entirely sure we figured out how to teach something as mysterious as filmmaking, but Joe, Mike (@catdogtreehill ) and I met so many promising filmmakers during our month working together and we’re excited to watch their artistry grow both from afar and hopefully in person again.
Long live @first_filmfestival , the coolest and most subversive film festival in China!
