My goal for the year was 52 hikes (one a week.) I’m so proud of myself for sticking with it AND surpassing it despite losing about 2 months of prime hiking time due to Luna or myself being sick. I didn’t count any walks on the farm, bike rides, or trail walks that were short/easy enough to wear crocs (yes, it came up a few times 😂). I’m inclined to up my goal to 100 in 2026… It feels equally doable and absolutely crazy. ❓👉 What did you accomplish that you’re proud of this year? Peeking through the trees at a perfect little campsite! ⛺️ Going out on Christmas when no one else was around was great because I could pick sites I’d normally never stay at if I had the choice (too close to other sites and a little closer than I’d prefer to the road). But when I was the only one around, it didn’t matter if there was another spot a stones throw away! I REALLY don’t like being able to see and hear people at other sites when I’m camping. That’s why I prefer dispersed over campgrounds. What about you? Does having other people nearby give you peace of mind or do you prefer to be more secluded? I swear I didn’t cry at the end of this 🥹 JK, yes I did. Check out this amazing footage of our @grcdogsports SR1 test, courtesy of @gus.and.mia ! 🎥 This is just a highlight reel, but gives a great peek into what the test is like! The full test consists of: ✨Greet 3 strangers. ✨3 loose leash figure 8s. ✨Middle position with movement. ✨2 min down stay with owner out of sight, owner greeting another dog, and a variety of other distractions. ✨Recall to front with movement. ✨2 min liberty (no leash, no commands, just good decisions from the dog). The real challenge is in the nuances. You lose points any time you repeat a command, give any physical cues, have tension on your leash or get tangled in it. No rewards allowed in the ring. You can’t rely on obedience in greeting strangers, loose leash walking or liberty (can’t tell your dog to sit or heel to get through those sections). Automatic DQ if the dog puts their paws or mouth on anything (including the toys that may be laying around the room). 3rd time was the charm for us! We failed twice before and I’m so grateful Dakota was there to capture the moment when we finally passed! ❤️ I will cherish those celebration clips forever! Hydration on the trails is KEY and some dogs just don’t drink as much as we’d like. My favorite hack is a splash of bone broth to get them drinking. Luna’s absolute favorite is the @smallbatchpets frozen bone broth. I just pack it up in an insulated flask so she can have it on the go. Made with only 3 ingredients: organic bones, organic carrots and water. It’s got that beautiful wiggly jiggly collagen consistency you get from home made, without having to watch the stove all day long to make it! They also offer a shelf stable version with no preservatives, just apple cider vinegar and some additional herbs to support digestion. This is a great option for travel, but pickier dogs may prefer the simplicity of the frozen recipe. As Luna gets a little older, I’ve been more and more mindful about warmups, cool downs, and anything else I can do to proactively support her body so we can stay active together for many MANY more years! 🏔️🐾 I was super excited to try the @petspemf pad and I genuinely can’t believe how easy it was to add into our morning routine. After her exercise and breakfast, she just curls up on it while I do my own workout. PEMF therapy utilizes an electromagnetic field to help with pain relief, inflammation, and healing. My idea of a good time used to look VERY different than it does now. Getting Luna out so often (because she would drive me crazy otherwise) really reignited my love for the nature. A desire to be outdoors is why I moved here in the first place, but somewhere along the way, I lost that.
