This month commemorates 14 years since Luminarium Dance Company’s founding, and it is with both deep contemplation and profound appreciation that we announce the decision to venture on to something new.
Kim is excited to announce that she will continue making dance in Boston under the new name Human Movement Project. The new nonprofit will be run out of her space in Hyde Park (@humanmvmtlab ), and continue to focus on live performance as a community resource and vessel for human stories. You can catch @humanmvmtproject this summer on City Hall Plaza and at Arrow Street Arts.
Merli V. Guerra is now Assistant Professor of Dance Technology at Texas A&M University, where she is continuing her creative research as an interdisciplinary choreographer and filmmaker. Guerra remains dedicated to innovating and producing public arts events that celebrate historic sites through her ongoing PLACE Project, while continuing to create and present her screendance films internationally.
We hope you’ll follow us at our exciting new ventures, and we want to extend the biggest thanks to all of you that made our dreams come true with an epic run with Luminarium.

This work accompanies and was provoked by Leah Reid’s score Cloud Burst, equal parts piano/electronic/experiential sonic moment and itself a passing storm.
You’ll have to come to the show to both hear it and see it beautifully danced by @katrinarconte — Friday 8pm at The Record Company, as part of Boston New Music Initiative’s 2024 Living Music Summit: Sound Image Gesture. THANK YOU to the fifty or so folks that deliberately joined us on our COMMON CIRCUS performance walk, and also to the hundreds of humans that spontaneously encountered us around the neighborhood and decided to stop and watch. Excited to share more documentation once I have a moment to process this manifestation of this project!
Constantly reminded that I have the honor of working with the greatest folks—the CIRCUS team is no joke (though constantly full of jokes). Our community collaborators also were so supportive and wonderful, big thanks to the Substation, Roslindale Village Main Streets, Distraction Brewing, the Square Root, and ABCD.
Finally, we raised just shy of $400 through pay-what-you-choose tickets. All of it will go to the O’Shea Sibley gofundme, as not everyone gets to dance in public without fatal consequences.
