In April 2025, the former rugby league star and recovering gambling addict, @lukebateman_ , found himself living in a broken-down caravan in remote Queensland, about nine hours’ drive north-west of Brisbane. During the day, he would work in the scrub, in 40-degree heat. At night, he would return to his camp and barbecue a steak before retiring to his caravan, where he would read. And read, and read, and read. There was only one problem. He was dying to talk about it with someone. He mentioned this to a friend of his, who suggested he try BookTok, a community on the social media platform TikTok devoted to books and literature. With more than 1 million followers, Tim Elliott shares how Bateman become Australia’s most unlikely book influencer at the link in bio. Photo: @paulharris Grooming: @torityeofficial

What’s the secret to making a fantastic audiobook? Writing it with audio in mind. @audible_au In my latest episode on @inthegoodbooks_podcast , I interviewed @mattdinniman , the mastermind behind Dungeon Crawler Carl about his writing process. From the very first page, he knew the experience on Audible would be a game-changer thanks to narrator and collaborator Jeff Hays @soundbooththeater , whose voice is ‘infectious’. The latest audiobook in the series, A Parade of Horribles, has just launched. Listen now, only on Audible. #ad

The story in this duology is so insanely good. BUT, it takes a back seat to the wonderful characters. You will cheer with them, laugh with them, and yes, unfortunately… cry with them. This is a part of the grishaverse, but you can read this without having read any of the others. No mourners, no funerals 🫡 #bookstagram #reading #bookrecommendations #leighbardugo #sixofcrowsduology

You cannot have the light of who you are today without the shadows that came before. In our latest book club we're unpacking The Midnight Library. Just like Nora, Luke's found that accepting his past isn’t about moving on but more about realising those moments are exactly what shaped him. Listen to the episode now at our link in bio!

“While we still have our lives, possibility is abundant.” Luke deeply connected with this month’s book club pick, The Midnight Library. While he found that Matt Haig’s story shifted his perspective on regret, he also found a deep, powerful argument for choosing to live. Having faced his own battles with mental health, Luke was deeply moved by this one quote in particular. Warning: This video contains discussions regarding self-harm.
