Summer wrap-up post 2.
“Car 54, Where are you?” Getting to meet the luminaries that have made the Porsche world is part of what we do, and part of the fun. This summer a couple of our squad got to spend some time with the great Tom Brennan. A 3-time SCCA national champion, and twice in a 924. Check the slides of some of his journey through the 1980s with Porsche, you might even see that Mr. Paul Newman took notice.
Tom is in his 80s now but has more energy than most 20 year olds, no joke. A business owner, father and grandfather, cook, race driver, engine builder, sportsman, and anything else he seems to tackle. Was truly fun talking story and having him help us get to know more about these unique 924s. He even signed a couple of things for us including the Porsche poster where he won the 1981 D-production title.
We have been tasked with restoring 2 of the 16 chassis Porsche Motorsport prepared for the introduction of the 924 to the world. The internal Porsche number for these cars was “933”, and often called the 924 D, for the SCCA classification at the time of D-production. More on those projects to come.

For those of us who were a part of the Porsche Motorsport world in the late 90s and into the 2000s, we’ll remember David Glenn. He was a true gentleman in every sense of the word… gentle, kind, humble, knowledgeable and a fantastic representative for the Porsche brand.
David was a master Porsche engine builder. In his early years, he helped usher in the “super car” era for Porsche with the Ruf Yellowbird engine program. Many of those who were in the trenches with Porsche Motorsport in North America during this time will remember him staffing the Porsche truck at the tracks and walking around the garages and pit lane making sure we all had what we needed. He shared his knowledge willingly… and we all have a few tricks we can say we learned from him.
David @oceanshorems worked largely out of the spotlight on some exceptional Porsche Motorsport restorations as of late and consulted collectors with their aspirations as well. Rest easy, David. Your smile will live on amongst us who knew you. 🙏

Some of the small details take the most time. Short wheel base (SWB 911/912) dash recovering over the years has left a lot to be desired, the hand punched speaker holes, no holes, oddball grilles and other home brew “fixes” are unsightly. Check out some of the cars at concours events over the years - they have been by and large, terrible! If you see the flaws you can’t unsee it.
With a number of original dash material pieces, inspecting original dash cars and using our heads we have been able to recreate the proper look for the SWB 911/912 cars. Now the dash material has been laser cut to make a superior end product.
