This time last year, I worked with my wonderful friends from @motus_enddna on their film project, ÒDIO. Inspired by their previous work on FRANKENSTEIN, MOTUS asks the question: how do we, who come into the world full of love and innocence, learn to hate. Using the same catalogue of questions, they interviewed dozens of people in Rimini, Rome, Hamburg and beyond. The interviews are surprising, moving, shocking, always filmed too close for comfort. Between what is said and not said, we manage to glimpse a truth we don’t like to face: that hate is a necessary part of us and that in a world filled with injustice, marginalisation, genocide, and denial, hate is a necessary ally if we mean to survive at all. On Friday 10 April at Kampnagel, Daniela and Enrico from MOTUS show this film and give an artist talk. Belgian choreographer Damien Jalet has caused an international sensation with works for Madonna, Thom Yorke and Florence Welch. He recently wowed audiences at Kampnagel with PLANET[WANDERER] (2021), together with visual artist Kohei Nawa. With MIRAGE, Jalet and Nawa continue their exploration of the constant change of nature and life. Intense days in Hamburg, filled with wonderful encounters! First of all, thank you to all the participants of the workshop 𝗠𝗬 𝗥𝗔𝗚𝗘 𝗜𝗦 𝗔 𝗦𝗜𝗟𝗘𝗡𝗧 𝗥𝗔𝗩𝗜𝗡𝗚 here’s a short teaser ( sound by @r.y.f.music )– where we dug deep into their own bodies to reflect on internal and external conflicts and the epidemic of hatred spreading everywhere... A strong, supportive group emerged, and some of them will join us for the project presentation on Saturday at 2:30 PM at KX, as part of the festival [STILL] CLAIMING COMMON SPACES @kampnagel_hamburg 💥 A huge thanks to our amazing and sweet assistant Sarah Plochl @saratoninne and to @luce_lambertz , who made this project possible💛 Right now, we’re conducting interviews for our research for the documentary film 【ÒĐłØ】that will accompany the dramaturgy of *Frankenstein (A History of Hate)* the second movement Starting from the hallucinatory pages of Mary Shelley, the project will bring us to the present, intersecting with the gazes and stories of many young people we’re asking to talk about their perception of hate—*Odio*, *Hass*, *Haine*—a human tendency in itself, but one now instrumentally fueled by rising right-wing movements everywhere. With MEDEAS KINDER, Milo Rau, director of Wiener Festwochen, reexamines children’s roles in semi-documentary theatre. Inspired by a real crime—where a mother survives her attempt to end both her children’s lives and her own—Rau intertwines this modern tragedy with the Medea myth, Western literature’s most infamous tale of infanticide.
