Got to show off my newest and final brace in Fire Island. Had my ulnar nerve released in my elbow, since it was doing overtime last year with crutches. Both the nerve and I are feeling great, and the cyborg transformation continues to slay. 😎🦾🦿
Tues, 3/12/24, left knee day! Just as we did with my right knee last summer, my left knee finally had its OCA transplant, to resolve a joint condition, Osteochondritis Dissecans (OCD). The bad section of bone and cartilage was replaced with a same-sized chunk from a donor graft. Over the next few years, it should become one with the end of my femur.
I’m wholly thankful to my all-star Orthopedic Surgeon, my family, my boyfriend Vance, and my friends, who have all been integral parts of my support network. I’m also grateful to these two mysterious donors, who died and have thereby allowed me to go on, by lending me a healthy little puzzle piece. This was obviously never a life-threatening situation, but I am thrilled to be on my way to closing the book on it. There’s more physical therapy to be done, but it’s become second nature. Let’s boogie 😎.
This past week, I was able to go to some parties and dance full out for the first time in a year. Was I awkward at times? Yes. But I never feared reinjury with either leg. I certainly didn’t think this would be possible until we’ve fixed and healed my left knee. It’s wild how far the left knee has come, and I know its graft match and surgery are coming soon. The right knee continues to heal and creep closer to normal, at 7.5 months post-op. Giddy with relief :).
