Per Laura: "Queer ecology (which is really just ecology) disrupts presumptions of binary thinking at every turn. Heteronormativity and dualism aren’t the norm in the abundant and radically inclusive reality of nature. The more-than-human world is brimming with queerness and continues to challenge human-imposed limitations on our understanding of sex, gender, and sexuality. Give me your poems about many gendered mushrooms, send me your pantoums about male seahorses giving birth, villanelles about sex-changing clownfish and ginko trees, and sonnets for queer creatures (flora, fauna, and funga). Whatever form, whatever part of nature calls to you. Let’s return together to the truth about our world, overflowing with queerness—nature as it is. ARCHIVE FANTASMA at The New Orleans Poetry Festival! Come hear us talk archives and poetry this Sunday, April 19th at 1 PM at the New Orleans Healing Center (room 400)! In archives, we find a record of our lives: what has touched and made us. From newspaper clippings and Vietnamese language workbooks to pre-1900s seed catalogues and daily gym logs, we will explore how familial, historical, and personal records inspire and inform our storytelling and how there are, as Derrida writes, “stories to be had everywhere.” Our archives are glimpses of our selves—of what we choose to keep, to store away, and return to.

Bianca Alyssa Pérez is a poet & educator born and raised in South Texas. Her chapbook, Gemini Gospel, was the winner of Host Publication’s Chapbook Contest in Spring 2023. Bianca’s debut poetry collection, snake breath, is the winner of Hub City Press’ Deep Line Poetry Prize, selected by Jennifer Chang, and will be released Spring 2027. Chiagoziem Jideofor is Queer and Igbo. Her work has appeared in Poetry, Michigan Quarterly Review, South Carolina Review, The Lincoln Review, Passages North, Commonwealth’s ADDA, the minnesota review, Sho Poetry Journal, MAYDAY, and elsewhere. She currently lives in Knoxville, Tennessee.
