Got to combine a couple of my skills š¤æ
Scuba x Cam Op x Gaffer on the Heaven visualizer for @LukasChiang
A lot of this set up was about controlling light spill so filming in a dark studio was clutch.
We used a far side key, Aputure 600x w fresnel, rigged on a beam far behind talent, creating a hard light.
For fill we wanted enough photon-power for slow mo shots so used a 1200x with a 5ft diameter softdome with LCD grid. This also made it so our key wasnāt creating too harsh of a contrast on talent.
Our hair light was an Aputure 300x w Fresnel & we cooled it down for a bit of color contrast.
We had an additional Aputure 300x up on the beam with a fresnel to help us backlight the ārainā falling onto talent.

Got to light the legend & Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh at A24.
Sheās got a graceful & regal aura āØš
For key light we chose the @aputure.lighting Nova P600c for a book light that could spread at a wide angle, saving us some space. The @litegear Litemat is becoming one of my fav, soft, light-weight options for a hair light. @matthewsgrip mini-boom arm frequently saves us from having to build a menace arm.
Our fill was a round bead board I crafted. And the 60x aimed at the backdrop allowed us to create a subtle vignette at the edges of frame.

What should we install next?
Itās been a process getting the box truck optimized. These shelves are gonna save us so much time and allow us to more easily work off the truck or roll carts out! Been a nonstop Tetris in my head but I think weāre on the right course.

Lighting GPP music video with @saweetie and @lianabanks šš¾
Lighting in pockets of light allows us to implement various ābrush strokesā of light. The key is to control where your light/ shadows are with LCDās, flags, etc. This allows us to create several layers and create depth in our image, to draw the audienceās attention while creating balance.
For this particular shot we had time to get playful.
For the key we put a @litegear Litemat 4L and 2L, one of my fav setups for tight spaces, both in the same stand with snapgrids on (for lack of a Litemat 8). This also creates the big beautiful eyelight you see.
The background was a cooler temperature created by an @aputure.lighting Nova P600c & Infinibar PB12.
The very warm & hard sunlight (600x pro w fresnel) pushed through the window to warm up her hair, face, the chair, and bounce into a round bead board we created for fill.

Mixing color temperatures can be a subtle art but creates some š„ results.
For this shoot with @vladaae we used an @aputure.lighting 1200D with a Light Dome 150 (5ft diameter) and a 1/4 grid cloth in front of it. The Light Dome is a good option when you have less hands/flags/time to help you control the light.
We further gave depth to the face by adding a floppy for the fill side and a warm edge light.
For the background we added a slash that gave us some color contrast with an aputure 300d w Spotlight mount & 1/4 CTStraw gel, the wall ambience fell off nicely a couple of stops under the key light.
Pro tip: I try to place slashing lights a good distance from the wall theyāre illuminating so that the falloff isnāt too drastic (per the inverse square law of light). Here the falloff of the slash is pretty significant, but this isnāt supposed to be a naturalistic look, so we gave ourselves a hall pass ;)
