I moved to Charlotte in May of 2021 as an employee of the Chicago White Sox. I’d visited a couple times before, but had only intended to be in Charlotte for the baseball season.
I met my now-fiancée about a week before I threw Drifter online in August of that season and an opportunity arose to move here full time in January of 2022.
I had no intention of playing music and received zero interest in the album, but was driving home from work and passed a sign for an open mic in my neighborhood and figured I’d poke my head in. There were probably about 8 of us in the room that night. And within two years, 4 of the folks in that room would be playing live shows as Low Groves.
4+ years later, we’ve played most everywhere I could’ve imagined playing in Charlotte and the project has been touched by so many talented and considerate hands in the Charlotte music scene. It’s been really special and has helped me grow immensely as a person.
It’s incredibly bittersweet, but I’ll be leaving Charlotte at the end of this month and our May 31st show at the Visulite Theatre will be a bit of a send off.
This isn’t the end of the project or even intended to be a final show in Charlotte. I’m only moving to Asheville and we’ve got a ton of fun stuff planned for this year. I personally don’t see at it as a final farewell.
This project wouldn’t have existed beyond a batch of songs online without the community that Charlotte gave me and I’m forever indebted to the folks who believe in art and believed in my music and built the community here.
For the first time, I felt like a musician first, not a baseball guy who picked up a guitar in his 20s. Thank you, Charlotte. Hope to see you on May 31st.

Old House Sessions EP is available everywhere today!
On March 23rd, 2025, we piled into Old House Studio in West Charlotte for what would become one of the final sessions in the space before its closure.
I was fortunate enough to be joined by @emanthemann on violin, @abang02 on cello, and @johnny.iii on grand piano to see what we could piece together within a day.
Reading each other and organizing the movements on the fly, we managed to run through four live takes that have become this EP.

I can hear the room in these and it’s such an honor to have been one of the final sessions.
Many thanks to @danielchodges for opening the doors to us, @alexanderleejacobs for all of the assistance, and to @huntleymiller for mastering!
NEW MERCH!
This spring, I received an email from the service I’ve used to fulfill merch orders explaining that due to tariffs, they’d be raising their prices. Frankly, I do not feel comfortable raising merch prices and placing that burden on our supporters due to added production costs.
This got me thinking of ways to make affordable merch that I’d be excited to buy as a music fan myself. Some of you may remember the recycled broken bat project we launched in a collaboration with @innovationbarnclt a few years ago.
I’m very passionate about reuse and limiting waste and don’t want to add to the endless cycle of American consumerism off the backs of questionable labor practices overseas.
In order to craft sustainable, high quality, and unique merch, @machelrorton and I sourced vintage, made in the USA, t-shirts and crewnecks from thrift stores and army surplus stores across the country this summer.
The graphic was designed by the incredible @hpalladino was locally screenprinted in Lowell, NC and I couldn’t be happier with how they’ve come out.
Since each item is unique in color and sizing, they will only be sold at shows. The first chance to snag one will be at our @confluencecarolinas festival show at the @eveningmuse (Charlotte, NC) on Thursday, October 9th. Hope to see you there!

Charlotte!
The snow has melted. It’s 70 degrees. And in two weeks we’re playing a very special set at the evening muse.
It’ll be different than any set we’ve ever played.
In honor of the Old House Sessions EP releasing on March 6th, we’ll be playing a stripped acoustic set as a band on Wednesday, March 4th.
We’ll be joined by two dear friends in @jacksonhardenmusic and @domidixon
Tickets available at the link in bio. Hope to see y’all there!
We’ve restocked vintage crewnecks!
A select few are also officially available for order at the link in bio. Each sweatshirt is a one of one USA-made crewneck that’s been hand-picked from second-hand stores across the country and locally screenprinted in North Carolina.
There are only a few available on the website, but more can be added as they sell.
This has been such a fun project and one that’s close to home as a consumer who nearly exclusively shops second-hand to minimize textile waste and preserve the craftsmanship of past.
