„Bliska rzeka” w języku sarmackim to jedno z możliwych pochodzeń nazwy rzeki „Dniestr”. 🟢 21 maja – 10 czerwca  Projekcja filmu „The close river”, Marty Hryniuk i Nicka Thomasa na Ekranie

In the last weeks we have hosted Sashko Protyah of @freefilmers.ua at a residency in Rotterdam. Sashko came here to work on the editing of his new film “Songs about the war”. We also organised a bunch of events together, screening new Freefilmers’ films, presenting their new publication “Zamotka” and raising donations to @medychka_fundraiser . We had a big tournee with events in Warsaw (@sdkslonecznik ), Berlin (@feminist.translocalities ) and Enschede (@tankstati0n ). Today on the 15th of May we will be in conversation with Sashko on @radio.worm (tune in at 8pm!) and tomorrow we will host a session of feedback about his work in progress at WET. It’s been a busy Freefilmers+WET spring 🌻 Pic 1: Marta, Nick and Sashko in Enschede Pic 2: Marta and Sashko presenting Freefilmers’ films in Tankstation @tankstati0n Pic 3: Marta, Sashko and a drawing of Nick on the beach in Den Haag Pic 4: Nick and Sashko in Tankstation Pic 5: A video from a rally in Amsterdam we attended together 📷 @thereissophie @unwavemenot @freefilmers.ua @sashko_protyah @lowbrows @thereissophie @marta_hryniuk

MEDYCHKA - life-saving aid for Ukrainians We are raising 10000€ to buy “medychka” - an informal term that Ukrainian volunteers use to talk about essential medicine and first aid supplies. We will provide medical equipment for civilians, paramedics, surgeons and soldiers (the majority of whom are former civilians who have been mobilised since 2022). We are working closely with our colleagues at @freefilmers , an NGO in Ukraine, to determine the most critically necessary items. What and for whom? We will provide civilians with essential first aid devices such as tourniquets, which are necessary in case of shrapnel wounds. The fundraiser will also help equip medics working in extremely dangerous conditions. Emergency slings, chest seals and laparoscopic instruments etc are used in large quantities daily and need to be constantly replenished. We will also supply soldiers with first aid kits, who need to supplement the equipment they receive from the state. The Ukrainian Army is largely made up of non-professionals, who were formerly car mechanics, office workers or designers. Why support Ukraine now? You may ask, why support Ukraine now rather than focusing on other crises? We are in solidarity with other anti-imperialist causes, including (but not limited to) the struggle of the Palestinian people. For us, our strong connections with grassroots organisations in Ukraine allow us to make a bigger difference with material support than we can in other contexts. In a time when state actors are falling behind, our continued support is more essential than ever. Please donate and share with friends, families and allies! We’re happy that our new short film “Centre for Creativity” will be screening at @iffr this year! Screenings are on Friday 26 January at 1:30pm and 6:15pm, and Friday 2 February at 9:30am in the program “Reconfigurations” shared with @cihadcaner The film features Margarita Polovinko and Oksana Sokoliuk, weaving parallel stories of resistance and the role of art in post-full scale invasion Ukraine. We filmed in 2023 during a residency in Babyn hosted by @khata_maysternya_space and organised by @proto.produkciia and @asortymentna_kimnata Thank you to everyone who helped in the process especially @mrgrt.plvnk , Oksana, and to Sergio Gonzalez Cuervo and Laurent Fluttert 💛

Here is a report from our third generator trip to Ukraine!  At the core of this trip were 4 large diesel generators offered at discounted price from Swiss company Soltermann. Much of our preparation involved clearing them for transit through the EU and in the end we managed to get the custom fees waived though the paperwork was huge! Big thanks to @soltermannag for their offer and big support throughout. From the Netherlands we took refurbished electric car batteries to be turned into portable power stations by a workshop in Pervomaisk and boxes from Dutch radio enthusiasts for their partners in Zaporizhzhia (the radio resistance network is incredibly strong and supportive - something we had no idea about before!). On our way to Poland we also picked up a large quantity of dog food from the Polish animal activist network - this was not part of our campaign but we helped transport it closer to Ukraine ;)  The larger generators necessitated a larger van from a friendly car hire (shout out to Auto Moto in Wyszków) that is happy to rent to people going to Ukraine. We also picked up various other parcels: adult nappies, sudocrem, folding wheelchairs and instant food as well as boxes from @magdalenamorawik and @jonasz_ch who gave us extra blankets, hygiene products and herbal meds. Upon Ksiusha's request we also bought some worming tablets, wheelchairs for dogs, and dog nappies for older and more vulnerable dogs. In the last months we talked a lot with Sashko about the preservation of life, of both civilians and members of ZSU. Frequently, when Sashko reaches out to vulnerable people to ask what they need, the response is “please help my brother/sister/husband/wife in the army.” We decided to purchase a number of tactical medicine items for this round of the fundraiser, namely chest seals, splints, tourniquets and trauma shears. These will go to paramedics and field hospitals near the front line. The rest of the report is in comments below! Huge thank you to everyone who donated and a special thank you to our supporters down under!

Pictures with some of our podgonchik brought to Ukraine as part of the second super busik. For the full list please see the earlier post. We are now prepping for a third trip and received an amazing offer from a Swiss family company to sell us diesel generators for a very reduced price! They will be able to provide power to workshops and support the ongoing efforts to reconstruct, repair and resist! We were able to do so much with your donations already, but we are making another push. If you were thinking about donating then now is a good time :) Photo 1: This generator is used to to pump water for the community of Arkhanhelske village. Photo 2: Recharging mobiles phones and batteries for the community of Arkhanhelske. Photo 3: One generator went to Zaporizhzhia radioresistance. These guys fix all kinds of things 7 days a week and make power banks from second-hand batteries. Photo 4: “Chamadanchik” - a portable power station made by another grassroots initiative in eastern Ukraine. Produced with batteries and inverters which were part of earlier transports. Already 7 of these were distributed by @freefilmers.ua and more in the making! Photo 5: Our campaign also supported production of small steel ovens made by a DIY workshop in Kyiv. One of the “burzuyka” ovens went to a Roma family whose house was completely destroyed in Zaporizhzhia. Photo 6: Our “Queen of Generators” supplies power to a workshop which does all kinds of much needed repairs. Photo 7: A generator for a doctor who serves as a paramedic in Donetsk oblast. Photo 8: Burzuyka blasting heat! All pictures via @sashko_protyah ❤️‍🔥 Huge thank you to everyone who donated! It means a lot!

Running this fundraiser with @marta_hryniuk ! Link to donation page in bio. We are raising €10000 to buy generators for at-risk Ukrainians, which will be distributed amongst most precarious communities in the east of the country by our friends from @freefilmers.ua Generators are used for basic amenities and communication in recently de-occupied areas near the frontline, in rural communities, in field hospitals and for reconstruction projects. They are currently extremely hard to source and very expensive in Ukraine. We will buy the generators in Poland and organise transport to eastern Ukraine. We’re asking for your help to ensure that these communities make it through the winter! Please donate and share with friends, families and all anti-imperialist allies!
