This month has been Earth Day 🌍 and we want to share a route to connect with the mountains. Even though spring has arrived, there’s still snow in the Vall d’Aran, and our suggestion is an approach to the Saboredo Refuge, perfect for ski mountaineering. SABOREDO REFUGE (Vall d’Aran) 👉 Start: Pontet de Ruda access road (by car) 👉 Distance: ~14–16 km round trip 👉 Elevation gain: ~1,000–1,200 m 👉 Difficulty: Moderate – demanding 👉 Destination: Saboredo Refuge and surroundings The route crosses the Pontet de Ruda and follows the valley on the shady side, passing beneath the Palas de Ruda and avalanche-prone channels in the Tres Picos sector — especially dangerous after heavy snowfalls or thaw periods. The track enters the forest, winds around some rocks, and reaches the hydroelectric installations; from there, after overcoming a couple of rocky barriers and some gentler slopes, you arrive at the refuge. Any day is a good day to celebrate Earth Day! See you up there! ___ Este mes ha sido el Día de la Tierra 🌍 y queremos compartir una ruta para conectar con la montaña. Aunque la primavera ya ha llegado, en el Vall d’Aran todavía queda nieve, y nuestra propuesta es una aproximación al Refugio de Saboredo perfecta para esquí de montaña. REFUGIO DE SABOREDO (Vall d’Aran) 👉 Inicio: Pista de acceso al Pontet de Ruda (coche) 👉 Distancia: ~14–16 km ida y vuelta 👉 Desnivel: ~1.000–1.200 m D+ 👉 Dificultad: moderada – exigente 👉 Destino: Refugio de Saboredo y alrededores La ruta cruza el Pontet de Ruda y sigue el valle por el lado sombrío, pasando expuestos a las Palas de Ruda y los canales de aludes del sector de los Tres Picos, especialmente peligrosos tras nevadas importantes o periodos de fusión. La pista entra en el bosque, rodea algunas rocas y alcanza las instalaciones hidroeléctricas; desde ahí, superando un par de barreras rocosas y unos planos más suaves, llegamos al refugio. Just to give you an idea, producing a single cotton item like a T-shirt requires about 2,700 liters of water.
