This week on Perception Frequencies, we have @lorelei__chi , a Chicago-based DJ and musician who’s journey through music was shaped by the DIY circuits of Michigan and the raw pulse of Detroit’s underground. Cutting her teeth throwing grassroots events and hosting freeform radio at WCBN-FM, she developed a sound that was heavily influenced by institutions like Movement Electronic Music Festival and collectives such as Interdimensional Transmissions.
Since relocating to Chicago in 2019, Lorelei has locked into acid house, mutant disco, and jackbeat, drawing inspiration from pioneers like Ron Hardy, Marcus Mixx, and Traxx. A devoted vinyl selector and former staffer at Gramaphone Records, she brings grit, precision, and deep crate knowledge to every set.
When she’s not behind the decks, she’s ripping bass, fueling post-punk and industrial noise projects across Chicago’s independent venues.

CHICAGO! Friday, 2/27 we will be tearing up the Clipper with this heavy-hitting lineup of local talent. Coming in hot off our night at Podlasie (early reports are already calling it the party of the year?), we are so ready to sweat all night long…
Kicking things off is Dean Raymond, the brains behind Chicago staple party series Spare Parts. He’s a connoisseur of machine funk, dirty disco, and emotionally bent house music with a post-punk edge—check out his Spin Cycle mix on Redux from back in October for a sample of what he’ll bring.
Next up is Redux’s own Decoder. Their trademark sound has quickly become a favorite on the station, finding itself in the rough-around-the-edges-romanticism which seems so at home in our city. You’ve probably seen them around all number of corners of the local scene before: Laura DJing and performing live as Lorelei and Nayeli fronting hardcore scene favorite Navaja. The full Decoder mix archive is up now on Redux.
Closing out the night is our dear friend Inés. Passionate Chicago dancers will already be intimately familiar with her underground series Work Ethic, carrying the torch of Chicago dance music with reverence for the past and prognostic regard for the future. Grace your ears with her mix from November’s Deepcuts for a taste of her magic.
We’re so excited for the music this lineup will bring, from the first needle drop to the last low-end fade out… come early, stay late, dress to move, c u thereeee
