FREE WORKSHOP ALERT!!! —— POWER Hour: Artist’s Financial Toolkit brings the spirit of reclamation and empowerment directly to artists and creatives. The 60-minute virtual sessions feature expert speakers Rus Garofalo of Brass Taxes (Dec 3), who specializes in demystifying taxes for freelancers and artists, and April Hannah of April Hannah Coaching (Dec 5), for a focus on leadership and self-empowerment.
Together, they equip artists with the essential financial knowledge and tools needed to maximize financial wellness, stability, and sustainability in the arts. Learn practical strategies for maximizing the value of creative work, confidently navigating financial systems, and replacing outdated narratives of scarcity with a self-empowered system that serves an artist’s practice and community.
Open to all—artists, entrepreneurs, and non-artists alike—who seek to take control of their financial future and build lasting financial wellness. Attending both sessions is suggested but not required. - REGISTRATION LINKS IN BIO

Meet Mike, our incredible Lead Community Liaison! With a warm spirit, creative eye, and vibrant personality, Mike has been an invaluable part of the Loose Chains Change project since its inception. As a 63-year-young unhoused veteran, his deep connections with Crown Heights neighborhoods and local businesses have been instrumental in our growth.
Thanks to your generous donations and contributions, we’ve been able to support unseen community members like Mike. Unfortunately, Mike recently underwent heart surgery and now needs additional assistance, clothing, and resources.
Let’s continue to care for our community together. Your donations will help us provide Mike with the support he needs while also growing the Loose Chains Change Tapestry Series. Donation Link in Bio!
Huge news! 📢 Loose (Chains) Change is thrilled to announce that we’ve received two grants from the Brooklyn Arts Council! These grants will help us expand our mission of transforming recycled lottery tickets collected by our Brooklyn Community Liasons into powerful multimedia tapestries!
We’re so grateful for the support of the Brooklyn Arts Council and all of our incredible funders who believe in our work. Thank you for helping us make a positive impact on our community.

Huge thanks to @interledgerfoundation for their grant supporting Stage 1 of Loose Chains Change! These photos are from the ILF Summit in October 2023, where we showcased our growing tapestry exhibited in Costa Rica.
Thanks to their support, we’ve been able to increase resources for our Community Liaisons. This includes providing them with money, clothes, food, and MTA Metrocards to better assist our community.
In its final form, "Loose (Chains) Change" invites viewers to contemplate the philosophies surrounding money, particularly how poverty, wealth, gain, and loss persist, all of which are sustained by modern-day Capitalist White Supremacists within the context of the U.S. Lottery's history and legacy. This "losing lottery litter" is ultimately a sign of the "loss" of hope, funding, and wealth that purveys Black & Brown communities and even more so a sign of the "a win" of capitalist gain. My aim is to continue to employ more #Community Ticket #Recycling Liaisons as partners to create a new pattern of economic exchange , by collecting discarded lottery tickets, redirecting the money from loss tickets into their pockets. #community #community #growth #selfempowerment #sustainable #healthymindset Follow to learn how you can support the project, engage in upcoming arts programming or just we a witness to the power of members in our communities come together to support each other.
It is through the materialisation, scale, and collection process of these lottery tickets that the crafted tapestry becomes a powerful tool. Found tickets are exchanged for cash, the tapestry scale of 40 acres is a bed where the embedded seeds will take root, the flowers to then be the final vision: HOPE in a tangible form. This whole #process in turn, begins to #dismantle the prescribed "Make Your Own Luck" system, #replacing it with a #self-empowered #system reconfigured to address the specific #needs and #desires of the #community. Pls #share and #like. Stay tuned for upcoming arts programming the will inspire and engage community members of all ages.
For our #Community Liaison specifically, this work serves as a reflection and projection of the #reimagining of #hope, it is with this #tool we seek to #transform what was a lethal tool of #capitalism that preyed on the community members of #Black and #Brown neighborhoods. The #project directly challenges the existing #systems of capitalist gain through gamification, a concept supported by US Government funding, one example being "Make Your Own Luck." This initiative employs a systemic state-based lottery marketing strategy aimed at manipulating and perpetuating a cycle of poverty within underfunded Black and Brown communities.

"Loose (CHAINS) Change" is a series of large-scale /spanning 40 acres, multimedia tapestries created using leather and paper lottery tickets. These tickets are currently collected by two liaisons, who are marginalized residents of Brooklyn, in Crown Heights. Myself and studio interns sort and assemble the tickets to create patterns with the tapestry. We use glue for strength, then reinforce with nylon thread on a sewing machine. The culmination of these actions results in a tapestry hanging with reinforced grommets to reveal a full pattern view.
Each contributor to this project, including studio interns, current and new to hire Community Liaison will be compensated with a sum of money in exchange for their contributions to the studio's project. #communityfirst #servethepeople #peoplefirst #art #action Stay tuned for exhibition dates and community wide programming. #followme
"Loose Change Chronicles" pays homage to my late great-grandmother, Berniece T. Wright, a vibrant #Emporia, Virginia native fondly known as "Gramma." She had a #fervent love for playing the state lottery. In her #memory, my #family and I now annually play the lottery on her #birth and #passing anniversaries, #uniting us in both #grief and #reflection on the #cultural and #economic aspects of this #tradition.
Stay tuned to the upcoming programming stemming form this project! #loosechainschange #communityservice #balancethewealth
Sorting Day!
Every week, Our team sorts through the recycled lottery tickets we exchange with our Community Liasons.
We clean and organize each recycled ticket by size, color, and quality.
