Colombia has made incredible progress, with 96.3% of the population now connected to the financial system. However, major challenges still remain beyond connecting.
Fragmented systems still make it difficult for people and businesses to move money seamlessly across platforms, often pushing them back to cash or to lengthy processes with potentially high fees.
That’s why the recent approval of Decree 0368 is such a big moment. It marks a shift from a closed banking model to Open Finance, creating room for systems to connect, compete, and better serve users. It’s a structural change that could reshape how money actually moves in the country.
Colombia now has a unique opportunity to lead the way, unlocking digital payments that actually work across systems, borders, and communities.
