🚶‍♂️ Movement Matters: Supporting Mental Wellbeing Through Active Living 🚶‍♂️ Healthy Ireland is a Government-led initiative focused on improving the health and wellbeing of everyone in our society. Through the Healthy Ireland Fund, communities across the country are supported to deliver meaningful programmes that make a real difference locally. Here in Longford, this work comes to life through Healthy Longford, which is currently in Round 4 of the Healthy Ireland project cycle, with funding running until December 2026. In 2025, 17 community projects across the county were awarded funding to support health, connection, and wellbeing. Each project partnered with Edufit Limited to gather feedback and measure impact, ensuring every programme delivers positive, measurable results. The Movement Matters Programme, delivered by Mental Health Longford, focused on the Healthy Longford outcome of increasing positive mental health. 🧠💙 In 2025, two Movement Matters programmes were delivered, supporting adults living in the community with mental wellbeing needs. The programme used movement and physical activity as a positive and accessible way to support emotional wellbeing, confidence, and connection. By combining gentle activity with a supportive group setting, Movement Matters created a safe space for participants to improve wellbeing, reduce isolation, and build healthy routines. A meaningful example of how movement can play a powerful role in mental health and community support. 💪❤️ #HealthyLongford #HealthyIreland #CommunityWellbeing #LongfordCommunity

🐶 Public Notice – Abandonment of Dogs at Longford Dog Pound 🐶 Longford County Council wishes to advise that two Maltese dogs, believed to be a mother and her pup, were abandoned at the gates of Longford Dog Pound 📍 between 5pm on Friday, 8 May and 10am on Saturday, 9 May. The dogs were left without food or water. This matter is being treated seriously. Leaving animals exposed without basic necessities places them at serious risk of dehydration, starvation, distress and injury. Abandoning an animal is an offence under the Animal Health and Welfare Act 2013. Those convicted can face severe penalties, including fines of up to €5,000 on summary conviction, imprisonment for up to six months, or both. More serious convictions on indictment can carry fines of up to €250,000 and prison sentences of up to five years. Both dogs were taken into the care of Longford County Council’s Dog Control Service ✅ and are now safe and doing well. The Council is working with an Animal Welfare Organisation 🐶 with a view to having them rehomed. The public is asked to assist. 📞Anyone who may recognise these dogs, or who has information relating to this incident, is asked to contact Longford County Council’s Environment Section.
