Giving thanks for lending a hand to a project that means so much to us. Through the Museum of Black Space-Time, I’ve created what I call thematic soundscapes, more than just mixes that contextualize songs, sounds and interview snippets, each on a prominent figure in our culture. Our central focus for today is the illustrious Maya Angelou.

The 7th child, born on Christmas Day, my mother was destined to be a special woman. A master pianist and an exceptional cook. The first to attend college in her family. Home Economics major who later became an outstanding English teacher. “Teacher of the Year” twice in her district, in fact. Eastern Star member. Active in voter’s registration & NAACP. Raised 4 children with my father, and honestly, the most generous and loving person I know. She’s inspired me when I was low, and prayed for me when I’m away. 93 and still kicking. As she’s so often reminded us, “I’m a strong piece of leather, well put together.” Lillian Madgelene Davis Logan, we love you, always and eternally.

Tonight marks the end of a residence. It’s been a fun 4 years, spinning tunes each Friday night, journeying through the worlds of music, from Jazz Funk to Broken to 90’s Hip Hop and beyond. But as all things good must, we’ve come to an end. It’s been my pleasure to have been a soundtrack for some cool folks. I look forward to periodic sets in the future, but until then… Keep the grooves going!
