Weeks posts
After a successful run, Until it Breaks me Down presented by the Vancouver Fringe Festival came to a close last week. This has been an incredible experience; I could make this post a novel worth long. I would to share some well deserved thanks to those that made all of this possible. - To @vancouverfringe , their staff, and volunteers, for facilitating this fantastic festival and allowing emerging artists like me to share their work with audiences. With the platform, support, and resources you provided me, I was fully equipped to bring this vision to life. - To Ryan Yee, my incredible technician. Working with you was a pleasure and an honour. Your dedication to take the craziness I threw at you and seamlessly transfer it to the stage, and transform it into more than what I thought my vision could be, was astounding. I truly could not have done this show, especially at the calibre we brought it to, without you. - To @thedallasgrey - filming the show @owen_allison_12 @francesca.vergara - promotional material You guys help bring my work into the digital world, allowing me to share my message with a larger audience, whether through the promotional material for the show, or for (upcoming) footage from the show. - To @alexander_multimedia - Original Videographer and Editor of current promotional material @emilietrimbeedesigns - Original Lighting Design @helingungoren - Original Stage Manager Without your amazing contributions to past adaptations of this work, this piece would not be where it is today. I am extremely thankful for your involvement in the success of this piece. - Finally, to the audience. To those that came and saw my show, those who left heartfelt reviews, those who talked to or messaged me about the contents of the piece and invited great supportive conversations, I am so grateful for your patronage and your generosity. - I am leaving the festival with a very full heart. This show was a culmination of 3 years of hard work and vulnerability fuelled by a desire to break the stigma and misinformation around OCD. From my heart to yours, thank you. ❤️

Until it Breaks me Down - The Live Version Presented by Night Shift 2024 Produced by Citadel + Compagnie Co-presented with Fall for Dance North The Citadel: Ross Centre for Dance Filmed by Juliette Coleman Lighting Design by Emilie Trimbee Photo 1: Jeremy Mimnagh ——— 2 years ago, I was inspired to create a 10 minute solo to share the truth of what it is like to live with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder to my class in the TMU Dance Program. 1 year later, I reworked that solo and turned it into a dance film for Healthy Dancers Canada’s 2023 Conference. Now, I reworked that dance film and adapted it for the live stage and presented it at Night/Shift 2024. The goal with this piece has always been 2 things. The first, more internally, was for me to discover and uncover how my OCD manifests itself within my life through the creation process to help me better understand it, and therefore, be able to learn how to effectively deal with it. The second, was to educate the world on the true struggles of those who have OCD and to break the stigma created by the popular misconception and depictions of the disorder. Late night on October 5th, I had the opportunity to do the second part of my goal. I brought this idea to a live stage and shared my story with an audience through the power of contemporary dance. It’s truly mind boggling to think that this idea that I had 2 years ago that I thought was crazy ambitious and extremely vulnerable was brought to life and set out to do exactly what it was created to do - educate and raise awareness. A huge heartfelt thank you to @citadelcie_ @ffdnorth and the entire Night/Shift team for making this dream a reality, for allowing me to share this piece with an audience, and for bringing it to life with the amazing space, lighting design, sound, and outreach. A huge heartfelt thank you to @alexander_multimedia who was an essential part of this entire process with your amazing work on the dance film version and your voice on the live version. This is definitely not a goodbye to this piece - this is but a celebration of the success it has reached thus far.

Until it Breaks me Down A Dance Film by: Logan Whyte and Mark Alexander Premiering: Friday, February 2nd 2024 at 8pm Link in bio. —— Until it Breaks me Down is a passion project by emerging Toronto-based choreographer Logan Whyte. When he was 15 years old, he was diagnosed with obsessive compulsive disorder. Inspired by the stigma inducing public perception that those with OCD just clean lots and are organized, Logan provides an authentic depiction of living with OCD. While exploring concepts such as avoidance, counting, undoing, and repetition, Logan shares the truth of what it is like to struggle with this disorder with hopes of changing the public perception. Feeling unsupported, he asks, “am I just supposed to wait until it breaks me down”? —— Wow, I cannot believe that I’m finally getting to share this with everyone! This dance film has been over a year in the making, and I am so excited to release it publicly. Without giving too much away, I created this concept as a way to both explore my OCD and change the public perception of OCD. I hope that you guys enjoy this dance film; this concept is very personal to me and I poured a lot of myself into this. I could not have done this passion project without my amazing collaboration @alexander_multimedia . Thank you so much for understanding the craziness I brought forth, believing in the idea, and doing everything to make it come true. Your contribution to creation and success of this project expands beyond your physical talent and I am so grateful for your work. I also wanted to give huge thanks to @healthydancer_canada where this dance film originally premiered at their 2023 Healthy Dancers Canada Annual Conference. Their conference and their message as an organization is what inspired me to actually make this idea a reality. —— Credits: Director/Choreographer/Performer: Logan Whyte Videography: Mark Alexander Editing: Logan Whyte & Mark Alexander Music: Logan Whyte Makeup: Logan Whyte Special Thanks to The Pointe Dance Centre for letting us use their studio space

Until it Breaks me Down Presented by: Vancouver Fringe Festival @vancouverfringe Link for Tickets in my Bio – Until it Breaks me Down is a constantly evolving contemporary dance piece that explores Logan Whyte’s struggles with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. For his Fringe debut, Logan shares his darkest version yet, confronting his intangible and existential fears head on. – I am so excited to announce that Until it Breaks me Down will be presented at the Vancouver Fringe Festival 2025! From its beginnings as a mere project in my graduating year in the TMU Dance Program, to where it has reached out, my goal with this piece over the last 3 years has been to share my story of living with OCD, to educate others on the disorder, and to touch those that also live with OCD and let them know that they are not alone. Presenting this 30 minute version of the piece at Fringe this year is such an honour as it allows me to share my message with a large platform of patrons. I have expanded the piece into new thrilling territories that dive deeper into the exploration of the neurodivergent mind. I am excited to share this updated work with everyone and I hope it opens the doors for many conversations on stigma and living with mental illness. - Stay tuned for more promotional photos, videos, and material! - Photo: @owen_allison_12 Editing: @alexander_multimedia

2024 ✨ Wow! Looking back, 2024 was a big year filled with many changes, new beginnings, taking risks, and exploration. I worked with an amazing dance studio, I moved from Toronto to Vancouver, I started training with an amazing dance company, I debuted my first professional live dance performance, I toured parts of BC with various dance shows, and I finally travelled to William’s Lake, BC to visit family. I am so grateful for everyone who was a part of my 2024 and for those who made it amazing! Thank you ❤️ — Photo Credits: Photo 1: @mimnagh.ca Video 13: Juliette Coleman

It’s official, I am a university graduate! Bachelor of Fine Arts in Performance Dance with distinction. I am so proud and excited to have earned a degree in the thing that I love the most, dance. The past four years have been quite a crazy journey. A journey filled with growth and changes as I evolve and learn. I have learned so much about myself and have grown so much as a dancer, an artist, and a human. A huge thank you to everyone who has helped me achieve this and who have supported my journey and will continue to support me. I am so excited to see what is going to come next and what amazing journeys are coming my way! 🎓💙💛

From Me, To You, For Us. Well, I handed in my last assignment today so I am officially done my first semester of my graduating year. One of the highlights of this semester has been working on this piece. It was an honour to work with the brilliant Hanna Kiel and my fellow classmates. We all put our hearts into this piece and the bonds that we made while working and performing together will forever be cherished. This piece pushed me outside of my comfort zone and made me create in new and exciting ways. I learned so much about myself as an a dancer, an artist, and a human. I experienced just how powerful connection can be when we all put our trust into each other. It was a magical experience that I will never forget. Thank you so much for everyone involved for making this an incredible experience and thank you Hanna for believing in me and seeing things in me I had yet to see. 🖤💙 Photographer: Jeremy Mimnagh @mimnagh.ca Last photo: @a.robb093 camera Choreography: Hanna Kiel @hbedance Projection Designs: Shaan Tahir Mehdi Lighting Design: Noah Feaver Costume Design: Claudia Matas and Merlin Alldis
