A little behind-the-scenes from my work for 𝘗𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘚𝘮𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘞𝘢𝘳𝘮 𝘍𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘰𝘸𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘱𝘴 curated by @regatuasefa opening at @gardinermuseum this Friday! This piece is about female kinship and breath— the invisible connections, care, and shared histories that move between us. Come by for the opening and stay for the panel conversation with the artists and curator, January 16, 5:30–8 PM.

a short stay in Bosnia & Herzegovina was an unexpected highlight of our recent trip. growing up only hearing about the country through stories of war, it was a moving experience to see it so full of life, lush, breathtakingly beautiful. We barely scratched the surface and are already talking about when we’ll be back ❤️

My solo exhibition 𝘼 𝙑𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙚𝙡 𝙩𝙤 𝘽𝙚𝙣𝙙 𝙒𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙧 at @artgallburl closes on September 14 — just two more weekends to catch it! I’ll be in the gallery on the last day (Sunday September 14) for those who wish to visit while the artist is present. You might even witness a brief performance 😉 A huge thank you to @suzannecarte for your unwavering support throughout this journey, always offering a hand, an ear, and your heart to artists. I’m so grateful to have collaborated with such an icon, and for the incredible team of installers you brought together who handled the work with such care. A heartfelt thank you to @emcroning for our conversations that helped deepen my language for the themes, approaches, and histories behind this exhibition. I cherished our studio visits and your insight, as well as our hilarious banter. It’s such a rare gift to work with someone who helps you see your own work more clearly. Endless gratitude to my husband, @itscarus , for being the quiet force behind so much of what I do. You’ve held space for me to take creative risks, to fall apart when needed, and to keep going. A huge thank you to everyone who has taken the time to visit the show, whether for the opening, the talk, my workshop, or simply to spend time with the work. I know it’s a journey for many, and I so I appreciate each of you. To be an artist is not something I take for granted. It requires time, space, and an audience willing to witness, reflect, and engage. I don’t create in a vacuum, and it’s through being 𝘴𝘦𝘦𝘯 that the work comes alive. Your presence, your attention, your questions and conversations are all part of what allows me to stay curious and create. But being an artist isn’t only about creating, it’s about making 𝘪𝘯 𝘳𝘦𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯, and I’m so grateful to be held in a community that allows that to happen. Finally, thank you to the Toronto Arts Council and Ontario Arts Council for your generosity and support in bringing this exhibition to life. ❦

𝘼 𝙑𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙚𝙡 𝙩𝙤 𝘽𝙚𝙣𝙙 𝙒𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙧 is up at @artgallburl until August 31! This project has been unfolding in my studio over the past five years and was the catalyst for expanding how I engage with photography and materiality in my practice. It’s a visual and material excavation of the orientalist archive through the metaphor of the vessel, which recurs throughout the work. Through this form, I explore the intersections of material, image, and power; unearthing how colonial visual languages persist and how they might be disrupted. As part of the installation, I’ve been gradually destroying the unfired vessels as an act that continues the work’s reflection on shifting boundaries of control and agency, while questioning the vessel’s symbolic role. Huge thanks to @suzannecarte for her care and vision in bringing this show to life, to @dejongehannah for being a great problem-solver and support, and to the entire AGB team for their warmth and enthusiasm. Join me and @emcroning next Saturday, August 9 from 1–2PM for an artist talk and exhibition tour. We’ll be diving deeper into the themes behind the work. You can register via LIB ❤️ Hope to see you there! Thank you to the Toronto Arts Council and Ontario Arts Council for your support in bringing this exhibition to life. 🏺🌊 📷 Documentation by @raidendingo

one of the most exciting projects I got to work on last year was bringing fixer°3 to life with my amazing collaborator and dearest friend @beaugomezx 💛 we have long been reimagining “critique” to feel more nurturing and nourishing — and thanks to our incredible °3 cohort, we brought that dream to life. so much gratitude to the artists & reviewers who shared such thoughtful work + feedback, and ofcourse to Beau who taught me ‘radical hospitality’ — as a term, but more importantly as an approach and way of life. It’s taken me a few months to process all the feelings of such an inspiring event — and just in time as we begin to plan for fixer°4 in Montreal 💌 keep an eye on @halftone.c where we will be posting more details (& updates in general 🤭) this project was made possible through support from the @canada.council thank you @betweenspace.co for the dreamy space ✨
