🆕 to the Brooklyn Museum collection…
This is “Stars Under the Border” by Ludovic Nkoth (@lnkoth ), one of the newest additions to the Brooklyn Museum’s collection.
The work portrays a night scene of migrants gathered at the edge of a country, waiting beneath a sky of faint stars. Drawing on the mass displacement caused by war, political upheaval, and economic collapse, the painting compresses its figures into a single unit—a visual insistence on togetherness during a moment defined by division.
As a Cameroonian-American artist, Nkoth’s paintings become meditations on diaspora and Black interiority—creating a space for reflection, connection, and restoration—and we are delighted to welcome this work into our collection.

“Stars Under the Border” | 60” x 72” | oil on canvas | 2025
Stars don’t disappear when lines are drawn. “Stars under the Border” is about what still shines beneath systems, borders, and definitions. A quiet reminder that what’s human moves freely, even when the world tries to contain it.
I’m very happy to be showing this work @flagartfoundation as part of their Recurring artist spotlight series. Opening Feb 11th (6-8pm) until march 14th

“Soft Armor”2025 | oil on canvas | 72”x32” | showing with @massimodecarlogallery booth G18 at @artbasel
A veil we hold up, hoping to soften the world yet it always finds its way through. Even when we try to hide from the noise of war, unrest, and all that’s unfolding, we’re pulled back into reality. This piece is about the fragile defenses we build, and how transparent they really are. We all carry shields that aren’t as solid as we hope. The figure tries to disappear behind a thin veil, but the world still pours through. This painting is about that quiet truth how none of us can fully escape what’s happening around us.
