“Double Blade” premiering February 2026
Happy to be spending so much of this season of the roaring sun deep in the trenches with this dance —
Always grateful to the making of dances for continuing to point me to the center of many entanglements: between bodies, devotions, dreams, realities, people, ideas, disciplines, environments, and cultures … to examine these perspectives of care and tenderness through the framing of the form of the body and try to keep inhabiting and inviting others into shared intensities + vulnerabilities. To understand that the motivation of dance is to disappear. This story is arriving at the end of ten years of obsessive interdisciplinary research and practice to study memory, emotion, environment, ritual, time, sensing, and entanglement - it is still a beginning point, but I am excited to finally share what it is that’s been keeping my engine going all this time so far.
Just before planting the first seed of this project back in May, I visited Rockaway beach with a friend. Before we left he ran towards the ocean while I watched him from the boardwalk - It appeared, for just a small moment in the slip of time, that he would never stop running, would just keep going until he disappeared. This image has visited me every day since, and has been a talisman throughout this process.
We are all running towards something, and away from something else ..always coming and going, leaving and staying or, as someone brilliantly said to me last night “…We are always meeting and not wanting to meet.”
this axis of immersion - some polyrhythmic confluence of opposition and the feelings that arise from it - is maybe the loose idea that this new piece is in devotion to. Though it’s still developing, so I can’t quite yet tell you what it’s about for certain …
