This mural is dedicated to the recovery community of Rutland. We are struggling here with an intense opioid epidemic which has only gotten more intense with this pandemic. I teamed up with local #crossfit coach and @crossfitrisingstar CEO Rob DiTursi to paint this on his gym which shares the alleyway with a drug recovery center called the Westridge center. 500+ folks visit there on the daily. My aim with this mural is to show structural integrity and many pathways to sobriety.

the girl can represent many aspects, but to me, she is my inner child who will face many hardships and obstacles on her road. I'm going on 8 years of sobriety and I'm very grateful to those obstacles to have made me stronger and more resilient.

Rob saw the mural I painted last summer in Rutland and it motivated him to put (even more) effort into helping our community to thrive. This mural has been in the works for several months and I am filled with a sense of accomplishment now that is has been completed! The title is "Morning Star". It features a portrait of one of my favorite local kids; Ella Courcelle.
The geometric pattern on the top represents the orbit of Venus as it and the Earth orbit the Sun, as seen from Earth.
Special thank you to Jesse Jacobs, who contacted and collaborated with me to make this a reality. It's located on Elm Street in Montpelier the capital city of Vermont. With support from @montpelier_public_art it is the first of two murals. The second is soon to come, stay tuned!

We humans have this custom where every Jan 1st we write resolutions which can often slide into a list of things we want to "fix" about our lives. Instead, this year I am looking to embrace a radical self acceptance to embrace who I am, where I am, what I am accomplishing or not accomplishing. I want to wallow in self love, so deep that I reach a whole new level of beingness on this earthly plane. Let's be real, the world is not ok. There are so many things going wrong for so many of us. What is the solution but more compassion, more empathy, more willingness to share what resources we have with each other. The only way we will make it through is with embracing a mentality of mutual aid. Help people out. Look for the helpers and do what they are doing or your own version.
I do have ambitions for this next year, but top of the list is just that. Radical Self Acceptance.

I had a very enjoyable evening last night in Bennington Vermont witnessing my brilliant and talented niece Lila Quiggley aka Maestro Q. Here is an excerpt from her concert; a snippet of a piece from composer Sarasate. She held a recital in a "barn" and had her sculptural work featured in her first gallery show downtown. The sculpture is an evocative study of the tension between obstruction and illumination, a cocoon germinating light and shadow.
Her peers also show much promise in the tradition of Duchamp creating interesting studies using everyday objects in surprising ways such as a useless hammer with a silicone middle and a giant weaving fusing wood and electric cables ...
Topping off the evening with a vermont made wool cap from her Auntie Lopi to keep her vibrant mind safe as she travels back to Alaska for winter break.
She is carrying the art gene from my Mom; her grandmother Annie Miller and her awesome Dad Dylan Q.

My Mom used to love to take credit for my artistic gifts in a jesterful way, chiding me gently as she emphasized the gorgeousity of this earthly plane which she has since departed. I swear Lila looks just like her and my Mom was also a violin player. (and piano, guitar, mandolin and banjo!)
However, witnessing Lila expressing herself creatively seems like a little peekaboo moment from her saying see! look what I made. Of course, sister Jen had a bit more to do with creating this kid. One thing for sure, Lila is in charge of her own destiny and I am enthralled with watching it unfold.
