Portraits of Craig Homan from sydney_eco_land_clearing with his goats and sheep at Rookwood cemetery for @guardianaustralia last year. The Boer goats clear two acres of weeds very fortnight, and softly tred around the fragile graves and stonemasonry leaving no inch unchewed!
This past month photo work has swung wildly each week between breaking news, war, floods, courts on the Herald to stories on longevity clinics and new aspirational sports at the Fin Review.
In the latest issue of Fin Mag we explored the rise of cutting. Not self-harm but the highly specialised equine sport, usually with American Quarter Horses, to separate a cow from the herd and associated growing obsession with western and cowboy culture, regarded as the Yellowstone Effect. Writer Eugenie Kelly claims that even though cowboys run in and out of fashion every few years this time it’s more than a fad with the genre trickling throughout music, fashion, sport -and into big business way beyond the agricultural.
Thank you to our photographer @lizhamdotcom who visited Snake Creek at sparrow fart one winter morning after a big night DJing as @hotflushdj
Liz took this frame outside Sydney to capture the Clarke family’s cutting clinic. Photo of Cody Clarke, and also with his father Hugh.
On Thursday 7 August I’ll be presenting at @statelibrarynsw a selection of images from the thousands in their PIX magazine archive that resonate with my practice. I used to find these magazines in op shops when i was a teenager and would cover some of my school books and folders with them.At the same time I was just falling in love with photography and i do feel that these photographs had a lot to do with that.
the event is free and you can book a spot in the link in my bio. Just look at gorgeous Adelie Hurley posing with her Graphlax camera outside the Barracks in Sydney - her story is quite something!
Tonight we have the legendary @lizhamdotcom taking photos for us! How lucky are we? When she’s not behind the camera - she can be found behind the decks as @hotflushdj - you should follow her 💋
biggest congratulations to one of the hardest working, living and loving artists out there … Today @performancespace announced that darling @bettygrumble is the recipient of the Experimental Performance Fellowship. i can’t think of anyone more deserving than Emma Maye, she endlessly gives us her art and truth. we love you EMG 🌷
In a world that rushes by,
there are women who become the stillness —
who hold open the circle,
who weave generations together with wisdom, laughter, and grace.
Elders, sisters, daughters, friends —
meeting not to fix, but to witness,
not to lead, but to lift.
This is how we heal.
This is how we rise.
Together. Always together. 🌸✨
Deep gratitude to our cover girls Betty Grumble and Moan and Australian photographer Liz Ham–we solute you!
