Our friends at the Topanga Banjo Fiddle Contest & Folk Festival are gathering once again for a beautiful weekend of old-time, bluegrass, folk music, dancing, workshops, family activities, artisan vendors, and legendary jam circles beneath the trees.
Happening this Sunday, May 17 at Paramount Ranch in the Santa Monica Mountains, the festival has been keeping folk traditions alive since 1961 — bringing together musicians, storytellers, dancers, families, and music lovers for more than six decades of community-powered roots music.
Expect banjo and fiddle contests, hands-on workshops, kids' activities, food vendors, crafts, folk dancing, shaded picnic spots, and the kind of spontaneous campground-style picking sessions that make festivals like this so special.
We’re proud to celebrate fellow California folk traditions and the communities that keep this music alive generation after generation.

🎶 GIVEAWAY: Live Oak Music Festival is back! 🎶
For nearly four decades, Live Oak has been one of SLO CAL's most beloved traditions — three days of music, camping, and community tucked into the golden hills of El Chorro Regional Park. It's the kind of weekend where strangers become dance partners, kids fall asleep to live music under the stars, and generations gather to celebrate something bigger than a festival.
Returning June 19–21, 2026, @liveoakfest is also an important annual fundraiser for @kcbxfm — so every ticket supports the local voices and music that make SLO CAL sound like home. 🎙️

Saturday night at Live Oak belongs to the funk. 🥁🔥🕺
If you've spent any time on a Central Coast dance floor, you know Graham Yates. But when he steps behind the decks as Grambo, he brings a whole new level of rhythm-obsessed energy to the night.
A drummer first (and the leader of SLO’s own @SambaLocaBand ), Grambo hunts through deep crates and across eras to find that specific kind of funk—the dirty, greasy, stank-face kind. From his roots at Cuesta College to the main stages of the Central Coast, he’s built a reputation for sets that are heavy on the bass and driven by a percussionist’s soul.
Stay up late with us at Stage Too as Grambo serves up a heavy dose of deep cuts and dance floor heat to close out the night.

Round up the tiny humans for the most fun hour of Live Oak weekend.
Taking over the Children's Stage Sunday afternoon, Miss Leo and Captain Kirk Nordby will get those little feet moving and those big smiles going.
By day they're teachers. By day-and-a-half? Two beloved Central Coast musicians delivering an hour of what they call soul-grass and silliness. Miss Leo brings California-sunshine vocals and award-winning songwriting, while Captain Kirk (formerly of Bear Market Riot) brings the rhythmic grooves and power-folk production to back it all up. Together they've cracked the code on kids' music that doesn't make the grown-ups want to escape—relatable stories, catchy hooks, and pure interactive fun from start to finish.

The perfect Sunday afternoon at the Beer Garden. 🌾🎸🔥
There’s no better place to be during a Live Oak Sunday than hanging in the Beer Garden, and Marty O’Reilly will be there delivering the kind of Americana that doesn't just play in the background. It stops you in your tracks.
Raw voice. Gritty guitar. Songs that dig into loneliness, love, loss, and everything in between. Rooted in folk giants like Woody Guthrie and the storytelling depth of Tom Waits, Marty has spent years on the road building a following that shows up because his music is just that real.
Whether you’re front and center or just relaxing with a cold drink, his performance will transfix you as it moves between the soft and haunting and the wild and electric. Come find out which one gets you first.
