Zone de contact January 22 – March 7, 2026 Wednesday–Saturday, 11 a.m.–6 p.m. Curated by Raya Lindberg As part of Photo Brussels Festival 2026 @photobrusselsfestival — Lisa Kohl In Nicosia, Cyprus, not far from the Greek-Turkish border, a pile of chairs evokes the mass of displaced people suspended at a dividing line between territories — an arrival that never fully takes place, where the possibility of settling remains uncertain. When projected, the image seems to lose even more of its reality, reinforcing the precarious balance of this fortuitous sculpture. Lisa Kohl subtly questions hospitality, holding the image — now sculptural — upright, even as it appears on the verge of collapse. On the island of Chios, Greece, an abandoned jacket becomes the vestige of someone who has fled. Where is he? What becomes of him? “Migrant” may be a category, yet what emerges here is a singular life in transit. Its geographical imprint speaks of displacement. Robert Smithson once wrote, “I prefer to think of identity as a non-place.” Lisa Kohl, however, constructs a place — even for a garment emptied of its body. This quasi-relic regains presence and dignity by inscribing itself onto the ground. — 1.

Posted @konschthal_esch SAVE THE DATE! Exhibition opening - Dis-placed II Under the title DIS-PLACED, in two parts, the exhibition will bring together the work of a dozen international and Luxembourg artists around the notion of the ‘loss of home’. The concept of ‘home’ is often associated with architecture, a territory, an environment and a sense of security, comfort and familiarity. Yet every day, people or groups are forced to leave their ‘home’: their home, their habitual place of residence, their community and their country because of coercive or oppressive circumstances. With @taysir_batniji , Marco A. Castillo, @vajikochachkhiani , Haus-Rucker-Co, @sebastiandiazmorales , @marlene_dumass , @guillaumedelaperriere , Omer Fast, @that_tirdad & @soufiaer Soufia, @samirahodaei , @candidahoefer_official , @hiwakhiwa , @lisakohl_visualarts , @gregor.schneider et @theblazeprod As part of the Biennale 2024 - Architectures, by @esch_capitale_culturelle Curated by @christianmosar and @_charlottemasse_ When? // Lisa Kohl @lisakohl_visualarts BLINDSPOT, Bihaç | Bosnian-Croatian Border Lisa Kohl engages with the poetic notion of non-places and transitional spaces, such as no man’s lands and border zones, while focusing on human life and survival. Existential questions accompany her artistic research on a metaphorical level, revolving around themes of visibility and invisibility, presence and absence, location and placelessness. #OFF #OFF.Venezia #OculusFotoFestival #emop #emoplux #kulturlx #museofortuny #bugnoartgallery #exhibitions #festivalofphotography #venice #photographyplasticiene #creativephotography

Video-Soundinstallation THE GAME | Bihać | Bosnian-Croatian Border | 2022 The video THE GAME reports on life and survival of people with migration experiences through the aesthetics of gaming. Escape routes are shown on a smartphone from the perspective of a young Afghan man. The device is reminiscent of a VR game console. In the voiceover, the protagonist can be heard describing the different forms of espace and pushbacks that he personally experienced. Installation shown during the exhibition BLINDSPOT at Künstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin 2022. @kuenstlerhaus.bethanien photos taken by David Brandt and Galya Feierman #bordercrossing #bodercontrol #pushback #stoppushbacks #escape

Exhibition view of the show BLINDSPOT at the residency Künstlerhaus Bethanien, Berlin 2022. Sculptural Video-Soundinstallation ACROSS. @kuenstlerhaus.bethanien Thanks to the wonderful support of the team of KB! Subsidized by Kultur | lx - Arts Council Luxembourg @kulturlx ACROSS, created during my residency stay at Künstlerhaus Bethanien, confronts us with brutalist window architecture and a view of a vast sky lined with dissolving clusters of clouds. Concrete and air - these two materials could not be more different and yet here they form a harmonious entity that calls to mind countless images, from Annunciations to window depictions in Romanticism and famous film scenes. They all have one thing in common: the window serves (in various ways) as a threshold between this world and the hereafter that not only separates the two but also establishes a contact between them. Exhibition view of the show BLINDSPOT at the residency Künstlerhaus Bethanien, Berlin 2022. Photography series HALIDOM | Sculptural Video-Soundinstallation ACROSS. @kuenstlerhaus.bethanien Thanks to the wonderful support of the team of KB! Subsidized by @kulturlx and Aide à la création et diffusion en photographie 2021 @cnalux The series HALIDOM represents sainthood on an iconographic level - as a pictorial metaphor for life and death, presence and absence, limitation and expanse, height and abyss. Sculptural figures in barren areas and border zones become symbolic monuments and representatives of the unseen. The veil is synonymous with concealment, protection and camouflage. The relief and the folds of the cloth suggest notions of divinity, heroism and inviolability. This series confronts us with spaces of transition - an allegory for the longing for freedom and redemption. #contemporaryart #artistinresidence #photography #contemporaryphotography #installation #künstlerhausbethanien #lisakohl

PASSAGE // 32°32’04.7’’N 117°07’26.3’’W Photographic Series | Border Field State Park | US-Mexican Border 2019 | The series was created in 2019 at the military base Border Field State Park in the United States, located close to the Mexican border. The title indicates the exact geographic location where the photos were taken and signals the political explosiveness of the place. The closeups of tracks from military vehicles propose a testimonial visual experience and create a palpable tension. The series pays tribute to a collective suffering, but it also questions the role images play in the reporting of conflicts. In this series, the visible speaks of the invisible and absence reveals presence. The tracks evoke escape which remains preserved in the form of a trace. #border #militarybase #usmexicoborder #contemporaryphotography #photography #rencontresarles #lisakohl
