💠 Yunchul Kim: TransMatter and Non-Human Perspectives
This September equinox marks a threshold between seasons and, for
@linkedspheres.art , an occasion to foreground the visionary practice of Yunchul Kim (
@studio_locus_solus ).
A South Korean artist whose work bridges art, science, and technology, Kim probes the transformative essence of matter. With a background in electronic music, he fuses sound, installation, drawing, and text to create immersive environments where materials emerge as active, shifting agents in perpetual flux.
Winner of the Collide International Award at
@cern (2016), Kim represented Korea at the 59th International Art Exhibition
@labiennale (2022), and has exhibited at
@arselectronica (Linz), the
@yokohama_triennale (Japan), and across leading global platforms. Through concepts like TransMatter, MatteReal, and extelligence, he liberates materials from their conventional roles, transforming nanomaterials, minerals, and fluids into autonomous entities that challenge human perception and cultural conditioning.
💬 In his Linked Spheres contribution curated by Guillermo Moreno Mirallas (
@guille_moreno_mirallas ), Kim reflects on the philosophical and ecological dimensions of his practice, from cybernetic systems and performative machines to Bruno Latour’s “matters of concern.” His work invites us to reconsider our relationship with technology, ecology, and the non-human world in an age of accelerating change.
