I'm an EX chronic mouth breather & EX upper chest breather.
(+ EX snorer).
I DO HAVE a restricted airway like many of you (SO I have to optimise).
I was diagnosed with "supposed" sport induced asthma...
by a Doctor who had no training on healthy breathing habits. ๐คทโโ๏ธ
I was given an INHALER instead of empowerment.

Coincidently, I also USED TO have frustrating hay-fever, persistent rhinitis & a desperate need for Sudafed sinus spray when I had a cold.
All of which "needed" medication.

Over the past 5 years, I've worked tirelessly to become a leading Educator, Speaker & Trainer for Breathing Habits Optimisation.
In 2023 I gave a TEDx talk to 1000 people and published a book to educate adults via their kids at bedtime.
2024 I was hired to educate Olympians.
I can't go to the sauna, gym or on a train without accidently assessing the breathing habits of the people around me.
Instantly recognising airway restriction, poor tongue posture, held trauma in the breath, posture restriction, anxiety and panic attack likelihood, a lack of recovery and poor sleep quality.

Some may call it a curse.
I see it as a GIFT
& an HONOUR to be able to support strangers, clients, entire sports teams (and when they let me - family).
I provide breathing habits assessments in person and via Zoom. I host workshops, give talks and train athletes and optimisers in business.

Age 7, realising my nose felt too small, I thought, "Surely if that was a problem, someone would have told me".
No-one told me for 23 years.
When they did, it changed my life.
Optimal breathing is SO MUCH MORE THAN nose breathing.
That's why I've never given up.

Behind the scenes of being a speaker...
I absolutely love sharing honest situations,
the challenges nobody sees
and the way I deal with them.

- Staying calm. (I always have breath)
- Listening to my body. (Crucial to manage energy)
- Finding a solution. (I always have spare clothing and hot water bottle in these scenarios)
These are all useful skills for a day like yesterday.

In all seriousness...
If I hadn't had a spare outfit and I'd still needed to go on stage, I'd probably have just announced what had happened to the room, showed them and cleared the need for embarrassment, because at least everyone knew that I knew. ๐คฃ

Most people think the solution to breathlessness is more air.
Jane Tarrant, breathing specialist and founder of Link Breathing, says that is exactly the wrong instinct.
When you over breathe, you dump carbon dioxide too fast. And carbon dioxide is not just a waste gas. According to Jane, it is what widens your airways, keeps your blood vessels open, and allows oxygen to actually reach your cells.
Breathe too much too fast, and your body narrows everything down. Less gets through, not more.
As Jane puts it: by focusing on more, you are delivering less.
It sounds backwards. But for people with reflux who are already dealing with a stressed nervous system and tight airways, this matters more than most people realise.

Educate the masses.
Work with those who are blocked.
This is my mission around breathing habits.
Because it isn't the stuff I educate on that my clients come to me for.
It is the subtle work.
The deep understanding.
The level of experience dealing with people who struggle to access what others find easy or natural.
The ability to open up the possibility with support.
To change the perception, the language, the relationship with what BREATH is.
To be able to assess what isn't even on a medical professional's radar.
To pinpoint exactly what they contributing limiting factors are, have compassion, but address them together.
