Welcome to Limu Creates In the Kitchen! As we work on our future watercolor recipe card collections, we are taking our camera behind the scenes to give you a glimpse of kitchens around the world. Today, we’re coming to you from Vietnam!
You may think of Pho when you think of Vietnamese food, but there are so many different types of soups and stews to enjoy here. Noodles are the star of the show in Vietnam, and it makes sense why the community keeps coming back to the comfort of these humble and hearty dishes.
Early in the morning, you’ll find that some of the busiest places, aside from the cafes, are street stalls and hole in the wall restaurants that serve all kinds of steaming bowls of goodness.
Before the heat of the afternoon sun takes its toll, Vietnamese people turn to dishes like Bún Bò Huế (Spicy Beef Noodle), Hủ Tiếu (Pork and Prawn Soup), and the one featured here, Bún Cá Ngừ (Fish Noodle Soup), to start their day.
Bún Cá Ngừ is popular in Nha Trang, a beach town in South Central Vietnam, due to the abundance of fresh seafood that the fisherman reel in every morning. It is a fish soup with rice noodles, pineapple, tomato, and fresh herbs and it is somehow both punchy and smooth, both rich and light. The pineapples add a touch of zest, while the peppers bring a kick to balance it all out. It is truly heavenly.
