It’s about time I thought I’d highlight my appreciation for the entire @spacegrapesrecords catalogue with this song, off the inaugural release on the label, which at the time I had no idea contemporary music could be made to sound like this. It’s hard to believe that this music is all recent and has been recorded in analogue with the essence of the vintage soul/funk/disco era.
I found out later on, and of course at no surprise that the recording engineer is none other than @daniloplessow_mcde
Himself and label partner Bobby Van Putten have collectively recreated the nostalgic sound perfectly in my opinion and every release is a staple for the modern soul heads out there and somehow they never seem to miss 🔥
I slept on the first release and couldn’t pick up a copy for a decent price anywhere but finally, they did a reissue and I was finally lucky enough to grab this one from Rush Hour a few weeks ago!
Bit chaotic in the studio atm. Failed attempts at building stuff, patching and painting walls, ripping 100 or so records sitting cross legged on the ground (still unfinished). But the pile is stacking up nicely for an elated episode coming out on Sunday!
I’m doing a solid 2 hour journey of joyful funk, boogie and house music fitting for smack bang in the middle of summer! All stuff I’ve been rediscovering from what I bought back from Europe a few weeks back so Im excited for this mix.
Working to get my studio back in action so that I don’t have to mix this in most un-ergonomic way. Rip my knees and back 🥲

Metroplex - 1993
This unique record on Metroplex perfectly captures the essence of detroit techno. It pulsates with emotion and its floaty deep-space melody is the distinctive and magical sound of Juan Atkins. (Not sure if that’s how he got the name Magic Juan)
I was over the moon to find a copy recently and I played it as my closing track on Episode 9.
Jazz is the Teacher on the A side is equally as amazing!

After a month break, I'm happy to finally get Epsiode 9 out there, so here it is!
I felt inspired to play electronic music that I think sounds best to let each song breathe and play the whole way through. So I made a mix of house, electro, trance and techno which is majority from the 90's which will play for the 2nd hour of the episode.
Based on this, my immediate thought was to invite my good friend Ash (Uecalypt) who I think applies this formula well to his craft. I have him up for the first hour for the guest mix which accompanies my more high energy selection.

Casa Voyager - 2017
I heard this record on a mix somewhere a couple years back and snooped around pretty hard for the track ID. When I eventually found it and realised it was a vinyl only release, it wasn’t cheap to ship to Aus so I put it on my wantlist and waited for the right time to come around.
I think there was something like 2 copies left in the world for sale on discogs last year when I was in Europe and 1 happened to be in a store in Rotterdam where I was staying for a week or so. I didn’t order it on discogs because I thought naturally it would be a good idea to see what else the store had in person. I caught the tram there every day that week and the shop never opened according to opening hours 🥲 By the end of that week I gave up and went to order it online. But guess what, the copy had sold!
Maybe it was not meant to be.
Maybe not though haha, it reappeared on an Australian sellers discogs store just a few weeks ago and of course I had to snatch it up!
Years after I first heard it, I still love it and stoked I got a copy!

4:15am - not that this time is unusual for me but jet lag got me up early so I started ripping my record haul from my little trip to Europe haha.
Found this little 45 synth pop gem @offbeat__records in Rotterdam. Crew there was so helpful and was kind enough to pick out a bunch of stuff I wouldn’t have even known to go for and walked away with a heap of good stuff like this one 💫 plus this shirt 💆🏼♂️ - one of the best record stores I’ve been to, check em out!

Believe In A Dream Records - 1982
Couldn’t think of a more classic electro funk sound than this! The Smurf was an instrumental track that reached the R&B charts in the US at #14 in ‘83. Which came to me as no surprise when I noticed the legendary Tony Humphries has worked his magic on it 🧞
