If you know me, you know that Prince is my pinnacle when I think genius musician! I adore him. Pun intended. When I was doing research to moderate the “Purple Rain” screening on 4/19 for @soulcinemasundays with my sister @queenjahneen & my brother @teamabyss . I discovered that Prince did not officially read or write music. 🤯 He did his own sort of notation and had an immaculate ear. I must say that many of the great artists that I’ve been blessed to work with & know aren’t classically trained musicians. I worked with Teddy Riley who did not formally read or write music when I was an assistant audio engineer in his Future Studios in Va Beach. For some artists music theory frees them and for others it restricts them. God Given Talent is God Given talent & there is no tried and true way. Prince made it make sense for him & that is what it’s about. Walk your path and be confident in it.
