This week, A-S welcomed author Karina Yan Glaser to 78th Street!
The renowned author and illustrator shared her creative process behind her latest book, The Nine Moons of Han Yu and Luli. This thrilling historical fiction novel weaves together two storylines set in Chang’an, China in 731 and New York’s Chinatown in 1931, following characters Yu and Luli as they embark on journeys to save their families. The book is currently featured in Adi’s Reading Challenge.
During her visit, Karina spoke about the thoughtful research required to bring these time periods to life and shared illustrations she created for the book. She is also the author of the Vanderbeekers series, a favorite among A-S boys.

The Lower Division library was beyond thrilled to host Grace Lin, the most highly decorated author and illustrator in American Children’s books! Grace captivated students with her stories of how she was inspired by real life to make storylines and paintings, reading aloud from her Caldecott honor picture book (A Big Mooncake for Little Star), as well as behind the scenes work on her Newbery novel (Where the Mountain meets the Moon). She led the older students in a draw-alone of a dog and dragon, while creating interactive play for Kindergartners. She even took the time to personalize each book for boys who brought in their own copies with a signature and illustration of the main character. Thank you so much for rescheduling your snow day visit Grace Lin, we LOVED meeting you!
