exactly one year ago, Grace and I were flying home from Thailand. The cheapest flight we could find home had a 24 hour layover in Chengdu, China. At first, we were uncertain if it was worth it to save the money for a layover this long… until we found out that Chengdu is the home of the Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. We decided to go for it, and I am so happy we did because it ended up being a top highlight of the trip! The giant pandas full time job was sleeping and eating, and they were experts in both 😆 it was so cool seeing how methodical they are at peeling and munching the bamboo. The red pandas were so special to see as well, like witnessing little red spirits of the forest. As we were leaving the research base to make it to the airport, we made a friend! He was a Chinese student learning English and was traveling to new places within his country. He was genuinely so kind, and hung out with us up until our trains had to take separate paths. Spontaneous detours like this always end up being some of the best memories made while traveling 🇨🇳✨🐼

this is pt 1 of my first attempt at a crochet challenge 🧶 I am timing myself to see how long it will take me to create my next bonnet (aka hood/baklava)
The crochet process often comes with having an idea, trying it out, then scratching that idea and starting over again! luckily, the yarn is forgiving😆
pt 2 coming soon :) #crochet
