There’s always something you can be better at.
This is something I’ve had to apply to my own training over the last few months. Dealing with pain on all 3 lifts, there was no 1 lift I could pick and push on. I had to find new goals in different areas so I would show up and still push myself as hard as usual. My own training is back to a pretty good spot and just in time to ramp things up for junior nationals.

Getting folded by my second squat kinda set the tone for how the day was gonna go performance wise lol, finished 20kg under my best but had a laugh and got to chance my arm at a deadlift pb. I know what I’m capable of and I’ll show it at euros.
Thank you so much to everyone who supported my fundraiser in any way the support was overwhelming and is really appreciated.
Thank you to Irish team coaches for providing top level handling to all the team. @_lawrenceking@cremedel_lacreme@sbd.ireland for the kit and @whitelightsmedia.intl pictures
@gar_benn for nutrition 🫘 and d gym @citygymlk@keevamcloughlin for mindset, nutrition, physical therapy, love, support, etc.
And another thank you to my own coach @cremedel_lacreme who has handled me and every international I’ve done and will hopefully continue to do so after this silly ec vote, not tryna glaze bro too much but you do a great job, you have a way of bringing the team together as friends and creating this atmosphere that is just the best craic, your ability to know when to focus on pure performance or giving someone the best experience on the day is something I admire and think every lifter on the team benefits from, I walked away with 20 kilos less then nationals but just as fulfilled by the fun I had. #gay
Bench vid is 100% what it felt like but not real x
At CityGym, coaching isn’t just a job to us, it’s a craft we live and breathe all day, every day.
Experience truly matters. True expertise comes from years spent guiding athletes through the highs, lows, and everything in between. Our coaches don’t just talk. They’ve been in the trenches, lifting, competing, and coaching at every level. From brand new lifters stepping on a platform for the first time to seasoned athletes competing on national and international platforms, our coaches have seen it all.
Our coaches have achieved incredible milestones within the sport. They’ve led national teams, helped shape champions, and consistently turned potential into performance. When you work with a CityGym coach, you’re gaining more than just a program. You’re gaining a team of coaches and driven athletes that will work with you.

* “All or nothing” thinking is the tendency to see things in extremes, you’re either a complete success or a total failure. Your performance is either perfect or worthless. If you’re not giving 100%, it can feel like you’re giving nothing at all.
Does that sound familiar? If it does, you’re not alone, many people in powerlifting struggl with this mindset.
The all or nothing mentality is surprsingly common in the sport, but it can be harmful for both your performance & even mental wellbeing. Whether it’s feeling like a bad session ruins your entire day, or believing a missed lift means your whole program is failing, this mindset can make it hard to enjoy training or remember why you started, or even believe in yourself.
Here’s the good news. You don’t need to be perfect to make progress. It’s okay if you can’t give 100% every single day. It’s okay if you miss a top set or have periods where other priorities take more focus. One imperfect session doesn’t erase your effort or growth. What matters most is staying consistent over time and finding ways to keep going even when things aren’t ideal.
If you care about powerlifting and want to stick with it for the long run, try to notice when “all or nothing” thoughts creep in. Remind yourself that a more flexible mindset can help you train sustainably, stay healthier, and continue enjoying the sport in the long run.
A recent conversation I had with someone drove me to make this post as I feel it could help a few newer/younger lifters to be reminded of this from time to time.

A question I get asked frequent enough by newer lifters I coach is “how do I get a big arch on bench?” So this is how I go about reducing the range of motion when I bench.

Couldn’t be happier with this performance, secured the win and earned a spot on the national team for the third year in a row. Backing yourself works wonders lol
Very lucky to have such a good crew behind me when competing, too many to tag but you know who you are and thank you all so much. The support from everyone this weekend was surreal and is really appreciated.
Having someone as invested in me and my lifting as @cremedel_lacreme really is a game changer, wouldn’t be where I am without him. #aboicoach
@map_mwenya thanks for pushing me, looking forward to running it back at euros

Pieced together what I know and think about sumo
Most my own athletes pull sumo and it’s something I spent some time struggling to understand. Hopefully this post can help a few out.
