If you ask me…the clean fragrance category is about to POP. Thanks to mounting consumer demand for transparency and new regulation impacting brands and retailers at the end of the year, we’re in for a clean fragrance gold rush in 2024.

Living in California, you see Prop 65 warnings just about everywhere, from parking garages to consumer goods. They’re designed to alert Californians to potential exposure to over 900 chemicals that could negatively impact one’s health, but I never expected to discover that this one obscure law (which was enacted way back in 1986) would be a cause of mounting financial burden for beauty brands all across the country. To wit: If a California resident can buy a brand's goods online (even if the brand is based somewhere else) the brand must be compliant, but the craziest part? Anyone can sue a brand for an alleged violation (often called "citizen prosecutors").
I dig into it this important issue today on Glossy.co and I hope you check it through the link in bio.
There’s a cottage industry worth more than $800 billion that’s quietly growing to help recycle, resell, and dispose of returned consumer goods—but where does beauty fit in? I dive into this question on @beautyindependent . LINK IN BIO.
A few years ago, while reporting on an environmental story in Hawaii, I got a shocking tip: There’s no such thing as “reef-safe” sunscreen. Fast forward a few years and it’s looking more and more like that’s true. Before I go any further, know this: Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in the US and worldwide, so this isn’t to say you should go without protection. What I am saying is this: The beauty industry loves to market to your emotions — and this one is seeped in controversy. I break this all down with the help of amazing experts in a feature on @bustle . Big thanks to @faith_xue for the edits and assignment and @charlotteparler@ohohorg@dr.coreyhartman for the fresh interviews to add to my reporting 🙏 LINK IN BIO
