The Tattooist of Auschwitz // SS Franz Krauss
In Hebrew the name Levi translates to ‘my love’. In English it’s an anagram for the word ‘evil’. I’ve been reflecting on how these two forces are inextricably bound in one name.
In this true story I held the unique position of being the sole Jewish actor to portray a Nazi SS Guard. Which made for a rather incongruous experience. The act of reliving history from the side of my ancestors’ perpetrators was something I could never quite wrap my head around. The one thing that always kept me going amidst the retelling of such evil was love. This series tells the real story of Lale and Gita Sokolov who found love in the most devoid conditions. Look for love in all that you do, you will find it. It is there.
