This series, Quantum Divinations, is based on the ancient practice of augury, a divination system that interprets the behavior of birds. I just learned that Augury is the brand name of an industrial productivity AI hardware that identifies when machines need repair. These collages are filled with machine imagery. Sitting with this uncanny overlap this morning, watching a bird outside turn its head in glitchy, digital moves.

Time is not linear and neither is collage. The star shape in this piece comes from a stash of 19th century French magazines gifted to me a few years ago by in-laws. I love those toothy pages and their unexpected images. Corsets, nuns, men holding cats. It feels profound to me that the middle of the star aligns with feather markings from a different-maybe-not so different source material, that they are the markings of a pigeon, that decades ago, long before I had in-laws, I buried dead pigeon because it felt urgently necessary to my nine-year-old self.

Foraging for a January zine workshop with @_hexentexte renewed my love of small fragments. Making the zine alongside other artists renewed my love of small, personal books + group energy. It turns out the color scheme I chose was a tribute to my date stamp. It turns out I love making even smaller books and crusting them in salt. I worked as I always do, with an artificial light at my third eye and the moon at my subconscious.

I took some tipped in plates from an 1890 falling-apart edition of George Eliotās Romola, randomly cut pages from a book of Roman art, and sheets of my favorite feeling and sounding papers to make a travel-friendly sketchbook journal for a recent trip to Rome and Florence. All the materials I collaged with came from peeling posters and other found materials in the cities. Used a sweet little A6 kraft binder to house it all. Long live the hole punch. Itās a fast way to bring a range of materials together, use up scraps, and make an impromptu book that you can rearrange endlessly.
