To have worked on this years Superbowl halftime show or how we like to call it Super Tazon, is to have worked on something that I can only describe as “once in a lifetime” or “a cultural moment”. A pivotal chapter in history wrapped up in 13 minutes. When I was presented with the opportunity to work on Benito’s Halftime show, I knew it was something I couldn’t pass up. Prior to knowing any of the creative I knew it was going to beautiful because
@harrietcuddeford was leading the vision. Having collaborated with her before, I knew If there’s anyone who would be able to pull off a spectacle of a show with meaning, it would be Harriet.
So, I jumped on the opportunity and signed on as Designer/Art Director in collaboration with
@yellowstudionyc . When I came on board, the team at Yellowstudio had been furiously working on the shows overall design and I came in to source and work with all of the vendors who would provide scenic elements, grasses, trees, sugarcanes, props, carts to make the show a reality and to Benito and Harriet’s note: make it feel as realistic as possible. Every texture and detail would be enhanced to make the world we were creating feel authentic and alive.
I’ve done this dozens of times throughout my career but doing it on the biggest stage felt different, every detail carried more weight, every choice felt more intentional. Yes, because over a hundred million people would see it in a single moment- but also because I’m a proud Latina who wants to make sure that I help represent the people and the culture with as much authenticity as possible. Seeing audiences around the world recognize the symbolism and the layers woven into the show… that’s something I will carry with me forever. …
