“Blade on me, homie, mask on like Shinobi
Ball so hard, got a MVP trophy”
Back in 2010, Danny Brown and Black Milk dropped a joint project. I could be wrong, but I think Black and Brown was the first track they collaborated on.
On this fitness journey, I finally feel like I’m starting to hit new levels and new PRs.
Sometime this week I’ll hit 500 total workouts with @joinladder and #TeamForged so I had to celebrate with some new TYR kicks.
Here’s to more PRs and more growth the rest of the year.

“I’ll take you anyway that I can have you
Bring along your ethics and your issues and your taboos”
“Woman Tonight” always stood out to me because underneath everything, it’s really a song about loneliness.
Tour life probably looks exciting from the outside, but the song makes it feel exhausting too. Different cities, temporary people, hotel rooms, and trying to fill that emptiness for a night.
Felt 2 is playful and stylish for most of its runtime, but this song feels more human and unguarded.
Probably the most vulnerable moment Slug and Murs shared with us on Felt 2.

“I’m NASA fast, on the spaceship, trying to control my life”
Crazy to think it’s been 15ish years since all the homies used to hang out here. This was the spot where we’d plan our missions, talk about weekend plans, or just make some dumb decision. Some of the funniest and craziest shit happened at this spot. If you kicked it here, you already know.
“Summer” by The Jacka always brings back that feeling of being outside with the crew back when life felt simpler. Although the song is hella chill, it also talks about Jacka’s homies being locked up during the summer while life keeps moving outside.
Hope everybody’s doing well and staying out of trouble.

“Si soy el primero o el último en tu lista
Yo sé bien que es amor a primera vista”
Nothing hits harder than tacos made at home with the right soundtrack. At any good taco stand in Mexico, the music is just as important as the food. The more cumbia, the more banda, the livelier the beat, the better everything tastes.
Today’s song is Amor a Primera Vista by Los Angeles Azules ft Belinda. The song slaps, and Belinda being on it makes it even better. She was probably an entire generation’s first celebrity crush, mine included.

“Here comes the ice cream truck, no need to duck and duck”
I have to show some love to Charizma, Peanut Butter Wolf, and all the paleteros out there hustling.
The song’s about Charizma noticing how the ice cream man rolls through different neighborhoods selling frozen goods and, even if only for a moment, helping people forget about their troubles. It don’t matter what hood you’re from, every neighborhood respects the paletero/ice cream man.
Long live Charizma.

“Shout out pa mi amá”
There’s a ton of songs I could dedicate to my mom.
“Dear Mama” by Pac, “Woman of My Life” by Equipto, “Hey Mama” by Kanye, “No Traigo Nada” by Snow Tha Product were the first ones that came to mind.
Regardless of the song, they all have one thing in common: gratitude for their moms and all the sacrifices they made for them.
I’m a mama’s boy 1,000% and I ain’t ashamed to say it.
I’m extremely thankful and blessed to have such a strong woman as my mom. She made sacrifices for Ale and me, praised me, called me out on my shit when I needed it, and has always shown unconditional love.
Happy Mother’s Day.
Love you a shit ton, Momz

“So where we going from here...
Been a hell of a day
Been a hell of a year”
MF DOOM, Evidence, and Oddisee all inspired my style.
When it comes to photography, I’m not ashamed to admit I looked to Ev’s work and, at times, borrowed from some of his compositions.
My sister gave me this vinyl almost five years ago. I had it on display in my classroom and whenever students asked about it, I’d tell them it was from one of my favorite artists and that I really loved the cover art.
Today I finally unwrapped it.
Seeing the inside artwork, the puzzle pieces, the warm tones, the studio shots… it genuinely blew me away and motivated me to try shooting different things again. Sometimes inspiration’s been sitting on your shelf the whole time.
Using “Where We Going From Here” off Unlearning Vol. 1 today.

“Me largo, no me importa tu vida
Me llega al pincho, estaré lejos de aquí”
Many years ago I used to hang around a bunch of Peruvians, that’s how I got introduced to this song and band. I remember hearing that the frontman wrote this song as an indirect shot at his parents, inspired by an incident where he came home in a pretty rough state and got locked out of the house overnight.
This song always felt like something straight out of a Tony Hawk soundtrack or an old skate edit.
It’s still one of those songs I go back to whenever I need an extra push in the gym.

127/365 “Vos, Mejor que te afeités, Mejor que madures, mejor que laburés Ya me cansé de ser tu fuente de dinero”
Every time I listen to La Guitarra by Los Auténticos Decadentes it brings me back to two conversations I had when I was younger about jobs and careers. One with my uncle, another with my dad.
When I was a kid, I wanted to be a paleontologist. I remember telling one of my uncles and he told me I was going to end up broke and jobless. He said I should follow a more “prestigious” career path. Lawyer, doctor, etc.
When I was a teen, I had an argument with my pops. I told him I wanted to go to art school or do something art-related. He told me to be realistic and stop wasting my time. That turned into a lecture, then an argument.
I didn’t end up becoming a paleontologist or going to art school, but I do have a career and I think I’m doing alright.
Now I can fund all my art-related hobbies myself.

“Mi mundo está jodió y me siento perfecto…”
4 years ago, Un Verano Sin Ti dropped and somehow became the soundtrack to everything. Summer drives, bad days, good days, overthinking at 2am, trying to feel something, trying not to feel too much.
“Efecto” has always been my favorite off the album. It feels warm, messy, nostalgic, and addictive all at once. Like being completely aware your world is falling apart but still finding comfort in one person, one moment, one song.
This album was also a huge part of what inspired me to start #leosjukebox; Just sharing songs I love, thoughts attached to them, and whatever memories come with them.
Crazy seeing how this album helped launch Bad Bunny from already huge artist to global superstar status. Feels like one of those albums people will always tie to a specific time in their life.

“I’ve been out walking
I don’t do too much talking these days”
Today I was going to go with “Let Me Alone” by Moow, but I couldn’t find it on IG, so I pivoted to the sample instead: These Days by Nico.
The first beat I ever fully made was built off this song. I chopped and looped the first 15 seconds, added some drums and snares, made a few patterns, and somehow ended up with my very first beat.
“These Days” was originally written by Jackson Browne when he was 16. Nico later recorded it for Chelsea Girl and even though she hated the added strings on the track, it still became one of her most iconic songs
