Hello! Just a quick announcement that I’m hosting another workshop this year with @lagaleriaroja . It takes place from June 26-28 between 8:30AM-3PM PST.
Over the course of 3 days, we’ll be creating an illustration based on a prompt. Through lectures, demos, and drawovers, I hope to give you a closer look at how I approach the ideation process, build compelling compositions, and problem solve when the piece isn’t quite working out. Memories are being used as starting points, because I see them as a means to make your pieces feel more grounded, specific, and “lived through”.
Lessons were very much shaped by my experience in both storyboards and visdev. I’ll show you how both have shaped my thinking: story has given me tools to push narrative in my illustrations, while visdev has taught me much about color and appeal.
I understand that this can be a bit of an investment, and I’d like to bring as much clarity to you as possible. A more detailed course outline is available on Galeria Roja’s website, but if you have additional questions, feel free to DM or email me at [email protected] ! 🌷

Poster work for @stuckintheglobosphere ! This is a show idea my friend Anya has been developing since before college, and it makes me kinda 🥹 to see it come this far.
The best way to support this project is by pledging to its Kickstarter! It’s already reached its goal (CRAZY!! YIPPEE!!!), but every next stretch goal it reaches is going to improve the animatic and unlock more full animation.
Outside of its dystopian themes, I’m most compelled by SITG’s mysterious world — golden light, tinny jazz, rolling hills and… a lot of furry eyeballs. For this poster specifically, I thought back to what it was like to drive through the English countryside. I’ve always been struck by the parallels between quilts and farmland.

Over the past couple years, @streetsofzine has published a number of free digital zines focused on background art. This year, I feel lucky to have watched them meticulously organize their most ambitious project yet — Orbis, a physical art book where every page features a different country, illustrated by a different artist.
🌎 Find Kickstarter info linked on their page! Orbis only goes into production if we meet our fundraising goal.
🌍 Here’s my submission for France, based on photographs from the 1889 World’s Fair. I lived in Paris for a couple months while on exchange, and really miss the daily exposure to history. Ever since, I’ve been interested in ideas centered around bringing historical moments into color.
Illustration work for The Matilda Project!
Before college, I’d sometimes feel miffed that there weren’t a whole lot of career pathways that combined art and academics. I often felt like you had to choose one or the other. This is one of the reasons why I look up to @shehryar.visuals ‘s work. He’s been able to shape his profession to engage with both his love for science and art.
He and his brother co-founded The Matilda Project, an educational initiative that aims to highlight the overlooked contributions of women scientists. Authors collaborate with artists to bring their stories to light. I had the pleasure of illustrating moments from Maria Sibylla Merian’s life, a pioneer in the field of scientific illustration.
It was really fun researching the art and artmaking processes of the 17th century. Being specific with textures and materials was important to me for the sake of historical immersion, but it also inadvertently helped me understand the beauty she saw in the hundreds of bugs and plants she painted by hand.
If your interests lie between science and art, I recommend checking out The Matilda Project, as well as Shay’s work! 🪲
my contribution to In The Streets of China!
of all the ideas i cycled through, i kept coming back to wanting to depict a scene from china’s past. this is nanjing rd in the 80s, back when the country was first opening up to the world. i wonder about the hope or trepidation my parents might have felt, as they came of age in an atmosphere charged with opportunity.
i’ll always be fascinated by this city. thanks @streetsofzine for the opportunity, and congrats to all the artists for their beautiful work 🪷

i’m curious — if you’ve experienced a moment like this, what colours would capture your feelings the most?
not too happy with the way the composition and poses turned out, but happy to have tried out a different-from-usual style. at this stage, most of my stranger colour choices still occur by accident — the end results deviate a lot from the initial impression i have in my head.
very much inspired by @chuwenjie ‘s beautiful, beautiful work!
