Maga Envulanza, professionally known as magapls is a 24-year-old creative from Nasarawa, Nigeria. He works primarily as a stylist and art director, though his practice spans across fashion design, filmmaking, and broader creative direction.
His projects often explore themes of identity, power, and memory through a hyper-stylized, Afro-surrealist lens. Drawing from personal mythologies and pop cultureβ he creates emotionally charged worlds where femininity becomes both weapon and performance. Rooted in African narratives but refracted through global references, his work frequently pits beauty against chaos, envy against desire, and tradition against rebellion, resulting in visuals that feel both theatrical and cinematic.
Maga is heavily influenced by visionary filmmaker Wes Anderson and photographers such as Jean-Paul Goude, Jack Bridgland, and Steven Meisel. Since beginning his professional journey as a stylist, art director, and filmmaker specializing in digital ads, heβs collaborated with notable brands and talents including the University of the Arts London, Rich The Kid, Even In The Day, Psycho YP, Nifa Studio, among others both in Nigeria and abroad. Weβre pleased to further promote his work here at yEWth.
This shoot was inspired by Hajime Sorayamaβs metallic sensuality, it fuses his iconic style with an Afro retro-futuristic visionβ chrome bodies, vintage vibes and deep melanin tones.
Through Sorayama, Maga recontextualizes the fantasy of perfection, power and beauty with an African narrative β where the past informs the future, and the future reshapes the past.
