Wounding the World is a solo dance work researching phallocentrism through the lens of a genderqueer conscientious objector – how our patriarchal world is obsessed in reigning through placing violence on the bodies.
The solo begins with the body struggling in the aftermath of a battle. A lament for gender-neutral bodies is uttered, escalating into a totalitarian choreography that forces the dancer in a self-sabotaging phrase. This violence is tackled via abstracting the carnal shape of the body. These new shapes work as silhouettes, trying to break free from the binary bounds, being some secret third thing from the man/woman dichotomy.
The solo ends in a fever-dreamy monologue – the body is in the battlefield not able to wield weapons, not wanting to kill. The body is then further stripped from its contaminations and we’re left with the initial totalitarian phrase. Something has changed.
