My 3rd Hamlet in just over a month in Fort Greene. A strange confluence of Hamlets this season, all in short walking distance from one another. TFANA, BAM and Irondale all had productions of the play this spring. Each production so different. It's so curious why we come together to sit in the dark and hear familiar stories told again and again. And with Shakespeare, different snatches of that rich text fly up in each retelling. Ophelia, a character I've never much cared for, really seized my attention tonight, she was fiery and full of spunk. Rolf asked me when I came home if it ended any differently and I joked that, "nope...lots of dead bodies at the end." But actually all 3 productions had radically different endings. Tonight's performance had dead bodies strewn across the stage as Fortinbras entered and the ghost of Ophelia looked on. Irondale's ended with a campfire, replete with s'mores that the audience could roast on stage while the actors shared stories and songs around the fire. Teatro La Plaza's ended with a kick ass dance party with the actors on stage. How lucky I was to get to experience these last 2 with my folks. They trek in on LIRR, we met @Brooklynmathaiger for yummy Thai food and then Hamlet these last 2 Thursdays. Grateful!

EDUCATION RESIDENCY ✨ @Leesewalker was thrilled to collaborate with Susanna Stahlmann @sstahlmann (Teaching Artist) for a Strike Anywhere residency at Cooperative Arts and Humanities High School @coophighschool in New Haven, CT. 🎭 Alongside teacher Sumiah Gay @miah234 , we explored one central question: How does an actor make vocal choices to convey objectives and tactics? Working on “The Day the Internet Died” by Jason Pizzarello @jasonpizz (@stage_partners ), students dove into active verbs and specificity, returning again and again to what makes acting come alive: clear choices, deep listening, and responsiveness in the moment. The shift from saying lines to playing actions is always where things start to click. Grateful for the opportunity to share our work with curious young actors—and to partner with the Arthur Miller Foundation @arthurmillerfdn in supporting this work. #StrikeAnywhereEdu #TheatreinEducation #EnsembleTheatre #artsineducation

What a fabulous weekend!! Beyond beyond. After a dope drag show headlined and curated by @thevanitylavain we explored Asbury Park, (how the hell is it possible that I've lived in Weehawken all these many years and never been???) And I fell in ❤️ 😍! Retro pinball and video arcade right next to mini golf, classic beach town, cool architecture, bowling, clubs, what a fabulous 🥳 town!! Then the main event - Brad and Megan's 10th anniversary party was such a reunion of friends and family. So many beloved pals we hadn't seen in forever. Soul juice! 💘

This winter, Strike Anywhere Performance Ensemble teaching artist Carrie Ellman-Larsen partnered with 15 classes (160 1st & 2nd graders) at P.S. 6 Corporal Allan F. Kivlehan School in Staten Island for a puppetry and storytelling residency. 🎭 Students explored three storybooks through theatre and art, creating puppets, building collage settings, and performing favorite scenes while developing language skills, fine motor skills, collaboration, and confidence. We wrapped with a joyful sharing for pre-K and kindergarten audiences, accompanied by Music Director Rolf Sturm. Thank you to our partner teachers, arts liaison Renee Esposito, the P.S. 6 community, and the DOE Arts Office for supporting this work! Interested in bringing our bespoke educational residencies to your school? Visit our website EDUCATION page to find out how! ✨ #StrikeAnywhereEdu #ArtsInEducation #Puppetry #Storytelling #NYCSchools
