I’ve admired @janbanning ’s work for a long time. The kind of ‘artivism’ he engages in is so deep and considered that it makes it all the more meaningful to be involved with this book. For ‘Blood Bonds,’ Jan and journalist @wittenbergdick traveled to Rwanda and worked with the nonprofit @cbs__rwanda , which connected them with survivors of the genocide who have reconciled with the perpetrators who killed members of their families. When I first read the book, it genuinely shook me. I had never encountered anything this direct on these questions. It forced me to consider things I would not have known how to ask. Though not for the light of heart, I really think this is a book everyone should read. Whether you are familiar with the history of Rwanda or not, it gives a clear sense of how the genocide unfolded, what led to it, and what followed, and brings together testimonies from both survivors and perpetrators. The perpetrators’ accounts are always shorter, but no less revealing. Some speak about acting out of fear, others describe a kind of collective trance. It is difficult material, but it opens up a much more complex understanding of what people are capable of, both good and bad. The work has been widely exhibited, and the current presentation at @fotomuseum.hilversum was recently extended due to the response it received. I’ve added a couple of reviews in the slider by @w.scottolsen (@frames_magazine ) and @denchphoto (@ap_magazine ). Haar reflectie op vrouwbeeld, haar schoonheid met alle imperfecties, sensueel, subtiel, maar ook uitgesproken en humoristisch. 🔹 'De trip van Ferdinand Hania' van @TheodorH is een meeslepende Bildungsroman die nu eens schrijnend en dan weer tragikomisch tijdsbeeld oproept van jong zijn in de jaren zeventig en tachtig. 🔹 Met een combinatie van persoonlijke observaties, internationale onderzoeken en politieke analyse laat @daanborrel zien hoe conservatieve retoriek en neoliberaal beleid een directe invloed hebben op hoe vrij, intiem en verbonden we ons voelen. Het resultaat: minder sensualiteit, erotiek en intimiteit. 'Rechts verpest onze seks' is een brutaal en bevrijdend pleidooi voor een goed seksleven dat niet in de slaapkamer begint, maar in de politiek.
