What a beautiful turnout! Thank you to all our amazing and beautiful community members who came to show solidarity, wrapped gifts and donate SO many clothes and toys for our newly arrived Afghans. Our Afghan community is facing horrendous policies and escalating enforcement at the hands of ICE in the past few weeks. We dream of a world where borders don’t exist and ICE is abolished ✨
Special thank you to @lebas.nyc for organizing, @barzakh for hosting us and to @isannanmahboob for the beautiful music.

Hey New York! Join us for a cozy night of community building at our Toy & Winter Clothing Drive! We’ll be collecting winter necessities for our newly-arrived Afghan neighbors (yes toys are necessities for all kids 🧸!), and wrapping presents and sorting clothes together, all while drinking hot tea and listening to live Afghan music ❤️ Please bring: -New toys for children 0-12 years old -And/or new or lightly-worn winter clothing for all ages and genders (coats, sweaters, hats, gloves etc). Each item you bring will get you 1 raffle ticket to win gift cards and prizes! We’d love a mix of educational items (books for reading support, arts & crafts kits, science kits) and purely fun stuff like Legos, Barbies, and stuffed animals 🌟 Check out some “Best Toys of 2025” list for inspiration! And please bring holiday wrapping paper if you have it! :) 🎁 IMPORTANT: if you can’t make it to the event, you are more than welcome to drop off items anytime at Barzakh from now until the 16th!

20 sessions of Farsi Club 💘 a special milestone that deserved a fun reel. To be honest, I cried while looking through these clips to send to Taraneh to edit. Creating this space has been the honor of my life. Thank you to everyone who shows up and makes the dream come true. Thank you to the non-Iranians students who find the beauty and see the value in learning about our culture and language. Thank you to my incredible tutors who volunteer their time to share their native knowledge with the diaspora, keeping the threads between us and Iran alive— this would have never worked without you and your support. And the biggest thank you to all the Iranians who have assimilation-trauma/have lost their mother tongue (or never learned Farsi at all), yet put themselves through the stress of practicing, session after session. I know just how emotional it is, and I see you, and I’m so so so proud of you. 🫂 All l ever wanted, as an assimilated Iranian-American, was to be in community with my people. There is an inherent love and understanding that springs up when two people of the same culture meet; it comes from a set of common values, a history of shared memories, and (maybe especially) the mutual pain that we’ve carried since before we were even born. That pain eases when we’re together, the burden is lifted, and finally our joy can be centered. Even as two strangers meeting for the first time, you get me and I get you. At Farsi Club, sitting down with all of you, I look around to see old friends and new friends, all there for the same reason, sharing the joy and the weight of our culture. And in that moment, I feel totally and completely understood. Viva Farsi Club and thank you again. ❤️ xoxo Kimia P.S. This amazing reel (and the cute adorable voiceover) is by @plainntart , my soul sister who I can’t imagine this Iranian-American life without. ❤️❤️❤️ #iranian #persian #farsi

O CANADAAA 🇨🇦 Tehranto, I’m finally bringing my clothes AND Farsi Club to you 🫶🏻 Link in bio to RSVP We’ll be at the iconic Iranian-owned @pamenar_km and joined by local Iranian-Canadian brands @lilaroosak , @sorshi_world , and @rangarangworld . Join us for the retail popup and buy gifts for friends and family (and yourself 😌) or join us for Farsi Club in the evening (separate ticket required) or come for both 🤠 Farsi Club is a meetup for Farsi language learners who will be placed into a level of their choosing (Beginner I, Beginner II, Intermediate, Advanced I, or Advanced II) to practice their Farsi conversation skills with others on their level. Each level will be joined by a native/fluent/bilingual Farsi-speaker to help guide the conversation. If you are a fluent Farsi speaker in Toronto (NOT a student) and would like to join as a volunteer tutor, please don’t sign up for Farsi Club via Eventbrite — send me a DM here! I’m so excited for this! See you soon :) xo Kimia

Three years since the death of Jina, three years since every Iranian was forever changed. 💔 Jina, I’m so sorry that you had to lose your life for this revolution to start. We will never forget you. You brought the world together, shone a light on injustice, and united the disconnected diaspora. Today (and every day, let’s be honest) you’re on our minds. ❤️ jin jîyan azadi, zan zendegi azadi, woman life freedom. ❤️ Jina Mahsa Amini 9/21/1999 - 9/16/2022

RSVP in bio to join 💘 Calling all Middle Eastern and North African women! Join us for Lebas’s first ever SWANA Women’s Networking Session: a very special afternoon of networking and mingling with your SWANA sisters and cousins 🌍🌙🧿 This was dreamed up as a space and platform to allow us to grow our connections, pitch our projects, and be in a room full of likeminded women. 🌟 Fostering connections amongst each other and building a foundation that not only sustains our heart and souls — but also supports our career journeys— feels incredibly pertinent at a time when we are wiser and better together 🫂 I’m so excited to be able to do this with all of you + our amazing panel speakers, who will speak on the ups and downs of merging their cultures with their careers and will share advice that they’ve learned along the way. Come prepared with questions for our speakers! Please check the Partiful link for a full rundown on the schedule :) Besides the panel, there will be plenty of time for mingling, sharing stories, and networking. Delicious SWANA food (small bites!) and beverages will be provided. Check back soon on specific details, and to those who register, please let me know about food allergies. ❤️ Hope to see you there and please message me with any questions you may have. xoxo Kimia 💘

The NYC-based Iranian brand repping culture, politics, and play into every piece 🍎 @lebas.nyc taps into Persian nostalgia and cultural references through graphic collections — from Jin Jiyan Azadi (“Women Life Freedom”) to reimagined vintage Iranian stamps. A love letter to the homeland, reimagined with a playful, diasporic twist. Each drop is slow-fashion, ethically made, and consciously released. Founder Kimia also runs a SWANA book club, organises community events and rallies protests, making LEBĀS as much about connection as it is about clothes. Come meet the founder and explore the stories behind the designs in person! 📍LONDON May 24th+25th | 12–6pm Southbank Centre, Queen Elizabeth Hall Part of @shubbak Festival’s opening weekend at @southbankcentre 💚

Having been writing for over a decade, her work weaves through the meaning of authenticity and delves into the depths of our humanness. She will be hosting a workshop curated as a celebration of traditions passed down through Shab-e Yalda; participants will be introduced to the Ghazal style of poetry, famously iconicized by the poet Hafiz. Taraneh Tajdini is an Iranian-American film photographer and set designer based in LA & NYC. She brings influences from her culture into both her photography and set design— with a warmth that can only be emulated due to the strong connection she has to her cultural identity. More about Shab-e Yalda On this auspicious night of the winter solstice, Iranians stay up until dawn to ward off maleficent spirits, conquer the darkness, and welcome the rising sun. We drink chai, eat pomegranate and watermelon, read Hafez poetry, and stay cozy with our friends and family until the dawn breaks — and we can all pass tf out! 💤
