I’m really starting to wonder what music gear industry sales figures have been like all these years that the value of music itself has decreased - I’m overwhelmed by how many boutique new creative audio processing companies and tools are springing up left and right, the industry seems to be absolutely exploding. if you wanna know where the money in the industry has gone, perhaps consider how many fewer people it now takes to do any production or recording or live gig than ever before - man vs machine in terms of ramifications for labor wages have been the root industry problem since way before AI, before streaming, before Napster, maybe since the drum machine but probably before that maybe since we pressed recording even - I don’t think it matters how many laws or protections are passed, we have a legacy or replacing ourselves and then wondering how to still get paid. now with surveillance tech and AI, all of the fabric of our lives is in a sense being recorded and then reproduced for us and sold back to us sans intellectual property rights for the data we create and the bots we train and program. now Napster is everyone’s problem.
