My chat with Mr Leather London, @solidwolfg2
[Kruger] Galen you’re very busy with your Mr Leather London commitments so thanks for some time to chat! One of those of course is ‘Leatherbound’…
[ Galen ] Yes! Each candidate running for @londonleathermen Mr Leather London is expected to have a project for their year. It varies wildly; podcasts, monthly community reachout events, or one large event.
The project is a big part of the competition - the community gets to know the candidates, and the passions behind them. I decided on a large event to bring the creative minds in our community together!
[Kruger] How did you come about your project?
[Galen] It came out of wanting to give recognition for hard work, and feeling included in a community. When I grew up, I’ve always felt I was an odd one out.
[Kruger] That’s a feeling many kinksters relate to, whether for personal reasons, or because fetish is not a mainstream activity! How did it affect you personally?
[ Galen] I was desperate to feel included in groups/clubs, even into adulthood I was ostracised. High school parties; the US Air Force; the Mormon church; & being part of classical orchestras. I never felt I belonged. I was kicked out of communities for being gay. Made fun of for having a passion for video game music, a passion for things the average person finds extremely geeky.
[Kruger] From that quirky passion something quite unique came about…
[Galen] Yeah I decided to set up the London Video Game Orchestra, where I can have likeminded video game nerds get together to play amazing scores from video games. The project also gives recognition to those who work hard to arrange musical score pieces for us.
I want to give the same recognition to the creative minds in our kink community. It’s hard to break into an art industry. My project gives artists, craft makers, photographers, and performers a platform to express that creativity. The Leatherbound community showcase is just that – a showcase of dedicated hard work displayed or performed by the kink community, for the kink community! I’m hoping this is not a one-off event but something I can put on every year.
