Who is the lady that keeps trying to help my kid get better at math? Well let’s see! Meet the Founder of Learning Leaps – Coach Kelly! 👋 Hi parents! I’m Coach Kelly, a proud product of Memphis City Schools - Salutatorian of East High School’s c/07 might I add 🎓! From basketball courts to classrooms, I’ve always believed in giving 110%. I played just about every sport growing up, but basketball was my true love and I played competitively through high school. After HS I switched gears and pursued an Engineering degree ( with coursework from Peabody College of Education @ Vanderbilt) from Vanderbilt University while working with the women’s basketball team - it was a life changing experience and further development of my leadership skills! After college, I took my love for numbers and strategy to the classroom and non profit space, developing STEM curriculum and teaching high school math/engineering. Eventually, I traded dry erase boards for keyboards and have been working as a software engineer building cool applications for the last 7 years. Building a successful career has been rewarding but not necessarily my mission. Along the way I have realized that my true passion is combining all of my skills —teaching, fitness, tech and creative thinking to birth new learning experiences for children—so I started Learning Leaps, an education startup designed to help kids (and their parents!) see math in a new light. Whether we’re solving equations or getting active, our goal is to build math skills and character at the same time. I see teaching math as my way of helping people tap into their highest potential and experience working through rigor. We’re not just adding numbers here; we’re adding value to lives. Memphis showed out in LA.! 901 native and Learning Leaps founder Kelly Miller hit the community stage at NBA All-Star Weekend with NYC-based Solepack, repping the city loud! From performing math-driven raps for 3rd graders at KIPP Compton, to sharing the spotlight with Rakeem Miles and fellow M-Town native Nathan Davis Jr., she brought purpose and pressure to every moment! She also connected with the REAL MVP, Wanda Durant—mother of Kevin Durant—with potential collaboration in motion with her foundation.
