Learning In Color celebrated #youthartmonth March 2026 @drewcharterschool where volunteers from @coxenterprises #teamcox and elementary academy students helped paint two beautiful murals; 1- canvas mural “A Culture of Care, A Legacy of Learning” designed by #atlantaartist @tesarlette and 2-“magic wall” mural designed by Lenia Castro @upperwestsidemurals *with input from 6-12 grade students, celebrating the school’s incredible legacy and community partnerships😍This beautiful art has transformed the stairwell area that leads into the local Eastlake YMCA where Drew Academy students partake in extended learning experiences everyday!🤗Thank you to the schools, sponsors and artists who make our work possible, “one wall, one school, one community at a time!”❤️#moreartinschools #learningincolor *a portion of the art supplies used for this project were donated by Blick Art Materials @blickartmaterials *photography by @paulward_photo 😄

We were honored that Learning in Color trusted us one more time with this exciting project, continuing a collaboration where we have created murals in several schools that celebrate creativity, community, and opportunity. With the support of amazing volunteers from Cox, this mural became a true team effort filled with energy and purpose. One of the most fun parts of the process was meeting with students to gather their ideas. They helped shape the direction of the design, making them part of the creative journey from the very beginning. Their imagination inspired elements connected to sports, arts, music, and innovation, ensuring the mural reflects what makes their school unique. A special highlight is the YMCA door, which the school shares for the gym. Instead of standing out, it is now cleverly camouflaged within the mural as a rocket, representing the STEAM program and symbolizing curiosity, exploration, and big dreams taking off. The design also honors Davis and Cousins, two individuals who played important roles in building and strengthening the East Lake community. The most rewarding part has been the daily compliments from the kids, who walk by wide-eyed and full of excitement. Seeing them feel inspired and proud of a space they helped imagine reminds us why we love doing what we do. On February 6, JSAC unveiled a mural as a tribute to JSAC and @eve_robotics student Zoe Maryam Alford (Feb. 6, 2006 - Jan. 31, 2023). Zoe’s family and friends gathered for the unveiling on Zoe’s birthday. The vibrant mural decorates the exterior of the newly renamed Zoe’s Maker Space, a place where students learn and use tools to create robots. Along with other roles on her robotics team, Zoe served as Safety Captain and took pride in making sure safety standards were met. The mural was sponsored by Carol Bowman’s @learningincolor in collaboration with @coxenterprises and designed and painted by visual artist Chane Fontaine @thechanexperience . @learningincolor works with artists to transform K-12 spaces using color and art. Chane’s design captures the inspiring and uplifting essence of Zoe, known for her curiosity, intellect, care, and brightness! Chane also guided @coxenterprises volunteers to help paint base colors on the mural as an MLK Day community service project. Thank you to Zoe’s parents for sharing Zoe with us! Zoe’s parents waited until the unveiling to see the mural and then were gifted with a smaller sized replica, unveiled by Learning in Color board member Tony Alexander and artist Chane. In honor of Martin Luther King Jr.'s actual birthday, January 15th, I volunteered at the Johnson STEM Activity Center @johnsonstemactivitycenter @jsacatlanta with @learningincolor through my job Cox Communications. Today we helped to paint 2 beautiful STEM inspired murals. As a creative I love the Learning In Color organization and am always ready to get ON SERVICE MODE with them.

Thank you to the 30+ volunteers from Cox Enterprises, along with artists from the local nonprofit Learning In Color, who took over our EA media center earlier this week to prep for a MAJOR MURAL PROJECT showcasing our STEAM learning environment. Some of Mr. Lathrop's 4th and 5th grade art students were included in the festivities working alongside the volunteers and professional artists to complete panels. For our final Summer 2025 Project “Paint-It-Forward” series we had the privilege of hosting the Creative Team from @coxenterprises a.k.a. “The Idea Bar” @atlantasmartacademy who not only helped with touchup painting and signage hanging but who also lent their layout & design expertise as we decided to #pivot from our original locker art design and #reset the lockers to their beautiful purple backdrop so that we could include the students’ ideas when they return next week!
